Sony DVD Player freezes

2 days ago my Sony DVNS50P stopped functioning properly. I have not had one problem until now.

It will load the disk. It will play for varying lengths of time generally less than 5 min and then freezes. Sometimes it freezes even before it starts to play. The player is 3 years old. Please help.

This can be a problem with the player lens, you can try first to clean it using a DVD cleaner and then after that try to play again and if still the same problem the lens may need a replacemnet already...

Try cleaning the lens with a DVD lens cleaner disk, this should fix the problem.

Its the problem of the lens and the motor that spins the discks that has to be replaced.and immense cleaning and servicing required. but it will work after that.

Dvd not spinning properly

I had the exact same problem.

There was a bad batch of spindle motors (why they didn't use brushless is any body's guess). I replaced mine and it is quite easy. I even soldered in the single-DVD player's (same basic model number, just not multi-disk) motor because I couldn't find the right part for the multi-disk model (or the single was cheaper, I forget). That was years ago and it still works great today (I didn't like the lack of features on a cheap replacement player).

Sony dvd player DVPCX995VMakes grinding noise and door won't open

I was able to fix this myself, however, I did get instructions from Sony that may or may not work. My solution was:
Unplug the unit and carefully (so the disks don't shift) move to a location where it can be easily worked on.
Remove the 9 screws holding the cover on. 2 on top, 2 on each side, and 3 at the back, along the top edge.
Carefully, may need some wiggly remove the cover. There are some rubber pads at the front of the unit that hinder the cover from sliding. Slightly wiggling and pulling to the rear will dislodge it.
Confirm all disks are properly aligned on the carousel.
Pull out any disks that are askew. They will be replaced later in the same way disks are added, through the door.
Look in the rear where the laser unit is.
Carefully slide out disks near the laser. You'll have to move some in order to tip others out.
By taking out 6-10 disks, you'll probably find there's one partially lodged in the laser unit. With adjacent disks removed you can slide the "stuck" disk out.
Plug in the unit and test to see if the grinding stopped.
Unplug the cord.
Replace the cover with the 9 screws. Some wiggly and pushing forward is needed to reseat the cover at the front.
Carefully move the unit back to where it was.
Replace cables and plug in.
Return the disks removed according to the instructions.
This took me about 15 minutes from start to finish.

The following was provided by Sony. I don't know if this works as I had fixed it before Sony responded.
IMPORTANT: If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
  1. Ensure the child lock feature is disabled.
  2. Attempt to open the disc tray.
  3. If the issue is not resolved, turn off the DVD player.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet for 30 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  6. Attempt to open the disc tray.
  7. If the disc tray still does not open, simultaneously press the POWER + STOP + EJECT buttons.
  8. If the disc tray still does not open, simultaneously press the DISC1 + STOP + EJECT buttons. NOTE: This step may not apply to all models. DISC1 is not available on all DVD players.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.

Blu-ray disc not playing movies

Try resetting the machine. Take the movie out, close the tray, press and hold both the stop and power buttons simultaneously until the machine shuts down completely... then turn it on. It will ask you for the first time settings again... beware that mine stated like that and the freezing movies until "No Disk" came up and now nothing will be read. I an taking it to Sears for an exchange (hopefully). I am disappointed with the performance so far. It's a SONY ****!

Won't read dvd

Try switching the LINE SELECT button from OUT to IN, then back to OUT. This solved the problem in which our Sony DVP-FX810 player showed LOADING for around 30-45 seconds and then CHECK DISC.

Player won't load any discs

I don't have a solution at this time. I have the same DVD player and mine stopped working this past weekend. It is doing the same thing as yours. I opened the case and loaded a disc and watched the mechanism. The disc won't spin. if you tap the disc it will start spinning and load and start playing. I thought I had fully fixed it. It will load most times but now the video and audio stutters as if the discs is spinning at varying rates.

Sony RDR-VX500 does not load some dvds, disc error.

Try the disks in another DVD player. If they play with no problems in another player, then you have a hardware issue with your Sony. Nowadays, if it is out of warranty, fixing it is not worth it, because it is cheaper to replace, at least in the USA.
