I have a new Kenmore 14.8 Cu. Ft Chest Freezer and I would like to mount four casters on the bottom of the freezer. I am concerned about drilling holes and the length of mounting screws which might come in contact with possibly condenser or evaporator coils located in the floor of the freezer.
Do chest freezers have components located in the Floor? I know that there is condenser and evaporator coils in the sidewalls, but I have no clue as to the floor. I have looked all over the web and have found no pictures or info about Chest Freezer Floor construction.
Note: my chest freezer has no external condenser coils on the outside back side of the unit like some chest freezers.
I have noticed that commercial versions of this type of chest freezer do have casters installed on them. any info regarding this would be greatly apreciated. Thanks! Scott

- This is a good solution that I might implement but will require some welding which I am not equiped to do. I do have some friends that do weld and could use their help. Thanks for your input!
youyr best bet would be to build a frame that the casters are welded to and there are no holes in the outer shell of the freezer. some L shaped angle would work nicely for this application and then there would be plenty of support for when the freezer is loaded up with product. Be sure that teo of the casters are lockable and two in the swivel freely.

I've been using a chest freezer as a frig running it with a Johnson Controls external thermostat. It's been working great staying at a constant 35-40 degrees fahrenheit. The past month it's started to warm up inside. The motor is running, I hear fluid in the walls of the unit. The top section started to get frosty while the rest of the unit would remain fairly warm. This unit has a flash defrost that I initiated. The front internal walls of the unit got very hot while the back was only moderately warm. I unplugged it and let it sit overnight. I plugged it in the morning and let it run all day. The unit was only moderately cool after 10 hours. The thermostat is set on 7 (max). I've adjusted it off and max several times. I hear the unit running the whole time. When I adjust it to 7 after turning it off I hear something else energize for a few seconds and then shut off.
This happened once.
Any assistance with this is greatly appreciated. My kegs are getting warm.
Best regards,
Ross
