Question about Whirlpool WTW5800SW

1 Answer

Whirlpool WTW5800SW doesn't always agitate

My washer will fill, sometimes it will agitate, timer will advance, it will then drain and spin. I've checked the motor coupling and it looks good. The agitator will manually and freely spin to the right yet catch when manually turned to the left. I'm wondering if the timer is going bad. Like I said, sometimes it will agitate, but most of the time it won't. Also, after it fills with water and just sits there with the timer clicking and advancing, if I push in the knob and advance it, agitation won't start.

It does make a loud click when opening and closing the lid.

  • azimmy69 Dec 27, 2008

It will spin. Everything runs normally except the agitator. Went out this afternoon to check on the clothes as I heard it draining and the clothes on the very top were still dry. I don't notice anything like a smell and nothing sounds out of the ordinary.

Sounds like you may a bad lid switch. Do you hear any clicking noise when the lid gets shut. The clicking noise is the lid switch activating.

SOURCE: bottom agitating, but top freely spins

You need to get an agitator repair kit. Remove the cap on the agitator. Some have a second inside plastic cover/cap. You will need a long extension and rachet and 1/2" socket to remove the hold down bolt. Remove and replace the parts with the kit parts. Replace the cover. 10 minute repair... online kit is about $13.00.

Beko WMP652W washing machine will start cycle but get stuck at end of wash, doesnt go onto rinse or spin any help please?

see the next steps and use the common sense: God bless you
When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem: It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer. It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. Whirlpool top load washer won't advance through cycles

A small motor that rotates the timer has gone bad. Common practice is to replace the timer. Usually a mechanical timer of this type is less expensive than a computerized timer.

Won't finish the final spin

Hi there,

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Stuck in spin

Hi!

If the Washer is stuck in spin then either the timer or a cold-water supply problem is causing this :
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance, then you need to replace the timer.

Washer won't agitate

I saw this happen once and you know what it was? A loose connection!. I pushed in the timer's molex block and it worked! It musta vibrated out the socket somehow. You must flip up the console to access the controls.

    Washer clothes

Does the washer fill normally and just stop? Or, does the washer fill, go through a complete cycle, and just won't drain? There could be a couple of problems that cause a no drain issue. 1. FILL NORMALLY & STOPS, WILL NOT SPIN - This is usually a bad lid switch. If you open and close the lid, you should hear a "click", indicating the switch is working. 2. FILL NORMALLY, AGITATES, WILL NOT DRAIN - This could be a clogged drain pump, pinched hose, clogged rain line. Also, you need to make sure timer is advancing properly. If the timer never advances, the washer will fill, but won't go into agitate or spin. Let me know if this is helpful.
