Question about Olympus Stylus 410 / ? 410 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lens won't deploy

I own a Olympus stylus 410. When I want to take a picture I slide the lens cover over, the lens deploys and I'm ready to take a picture. Now when I slide the cover back then lens does not come out so I can't take pictures. I can view pictures on the card so it's not a battery issue.

The problem you are describing is a problem with the sensor behind the lens cover door. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product. The cost is $83 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

How do I set the time delay on my olympus stylus 410?

Press down-arrow repeatedly and select the timer (looks like a one-handed clock). Press the shutter button to take the picture. The control lamp lights for about ten seconds, blinks for two, then the camera takes the picture.

Refer to the section "Using the self-timer" in the Reference Manual.

Telescoping lens opens but the view finder continues to flash an orange light and I can not push the button and take a picture. I have ordered a new battery to see if that helps because the camera is used...

Before trying the new battery, try cleaning the battery compartment contacts with a cotton swab dampened, not drenched, in rubbing alcohol. Blow dry the compartment and then try the new battery. Thanks, Dana

Clean it with a blast of canned air and maybe a q-tip. Sometimes they can get a little sticky.

Lens won't come out

It sounds like the sensor that tells the camera weather the cover is open or closed has failed or come loose. This is a fairly common issue on cameras with the sliding lens covers. Our shop would charge around $50 in labor to fix this issue if it is that sensor. If a part was required it would be somewhere between $20 and $50 depending on what Olympus charges for the part. Cannot speak to what other shops may charge. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
