Question about PC Laptops

2 Answers

Won this new netbook at christmas party. Turned it on but it gets stuck at blue screen saying 'Please wait while Windows is starting up......' after Windows XP logo showed for a few seconds.
Get's stuck at this screen for hours and will not get past it. Plugged in an external dvd writer that came with it (it has no internal cd drive) and tried starting it with 'system disc' and also with 'Windows XP Home disc (both came with netbook) but cannot get past the above screen.
Any help would be appreciated - I have no receipt for warranty!

Try Safe Mode.Disconnect every device (Mouse also)
Hit F8 at very beginning until you get a list of options select Safe mode and check if Windows starts.
then try step by step confirmation option.
say yes to every request until freeze: last driver you accepted to load is the culprit.
Remove it in Safe mode using Start/Run/Msconfig

Well a few things> You might have a bad hard drive. Check with the vendor (even though it's a prize somebody made this laptop)

The fact that you can't get past a windows CD disk is not a good sign. Check those CD's on somebody else's computer and see IF you can get a little further in the CD loading. (i.e. so you know how things are supposed to work with the CD's /DVD's.)

If you can see the DVD's loading on a computer that you know works and they don't on your "new one", you may have a bad hard drive right out of the box.

My Acer netbook will not boot completely to windows. I get a blue screen and then it attempts to reboot again. What do I do ?

Maybe you can try a system restore. If you are still running the pre-installed OS, press one of the following keys to start system restore. (Depends on which model you have)
  • ALT+F10
  • ALT+F8
  • FN+F8
  • FN+F10

Do this when you see the Acer boot screen. Hope this will help.

Acer Aspire One - blue screen only when try to boot

You may have to remove and reset the HDD and Memory on the unit.
Next, you will recv. the F-2 to continue or F-12 to enter setup.
Enter setup and change date and time.
Save and try.
You may have a damaged HD or boot partition and reloading the operating system will be necessary.

Reseating the HD will assure that you have a good connection and the same with the memory.

Also, if the unit has been dropped, you may have a damaged HD and may need to change it.

Acer aspire 1 netbook won,t boot up.

When you first turn the machine on hit F2, that will take you into the bios menu, i don't know what version your machine is using, but the information is usually on the first page, you should find it easy enough because it will be next to the CD/DVD drive.
