Can't Uninstall Lenovo Rescue and Recovery

Hi, I would like to upgrade Rescue and Recovery to the current version of 4.21, but to do that I need to install my version 3.01.0037. The problem is that I can't uninstall that version. When I try to in the Control Panel, it give me a message that says: "The installed product does not match the installation source(s). and asked me to browse to locate the installation source. I downloaded the install file for my version, but it is a .exe file named with a bunch of letters and numbers, and when I hit "browse" it will only look for a .msi file named Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution

I tried that. didn't work. I called tech support and they said there are problems when uninstalling this program when sp3 is installed. My computer had other problems so I ended up rebuilding it and I was able to uninstall the original version and install 4.21 before I installed sp3.

    Same here -

I want to upgrade to a more current version of Rescue and Recovery and avail of the new additions of the newer Client Security Solution edition. To do so I need to uninstall the Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution with version of 3.01.0037.00 of Rescue and Recovery, but the uninstall function of the 'Add/Remove Windows Programs' can't find the .msi in the original setup files. No unistall, no upgrade!!

    Frustrating!

I too have the same problem. As per the solution provided in the beginning of the thread I don't want re-image my OS, just to avoid the headache of re-installing everything and updates.

In addition my rescue and recovery doesn't work either. So I am running my TP without RnR. :-(

The exe file you downloaded is a self-extracting package - you need to run it to extract the files.

Hi.

To install a different language - Multilingual User Interface (MUI) - you need to have Windows 7 Ultimate.

Anytime Upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate
Type Anytime Upgrade in the Search programs and files box in the Start menu and click on the Windows Anytime Upgrade icon. From there, you can buy an Anytime Upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate. Then your can enter your Anytime Upgrade product key and perform a simple upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate so you can install a different language.

If you are in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the US you can use Anytime Upgrade. If not you will need to buy Windows 7 Ultimate, or buy Windows 7 in the language you need.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/windows-anytime-upgrade

Install Language Pack in Windows 7 Ultimate

1. Start -> All Programs --> Windows Update --> Optional Updates.
2. Open optional Updates and go to the section Windows 7 Language Packs.
3. Tick the Language Pack you want and hit OK
4. Proceed with Install Updates
5. Depiction of Windows 7 downloading a Language Pack
6. Automatic install initiated after download

How to change the Windows 7 Display Language:

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Clock, Language, and Region / Change the display language
2. Switch the display language in the Choose a display language dropdown menu.
3. Click OK
4. Log off for the changes to take effect (This will affect only the user profile under which you are currently logged on).

The only other way to get the English language is to use the recovery partition or recovery disk to start over from scratch.

If there is anything else please post back..

Good luck.

I cannot get into my files

Hi,

Check in event viewer to see if chkdsk ran. Normally when chkdsk runs, it throws an event into the event log.
It should be in the Application event log. Lets verify that it did run.

To fix any corrupt system files, lets try System File checker.
Click Start
Click All Programs
Click Accessories and right click on the Command Prompt.
Select the Security Tab and choose "Run as Administrator"
Click on Command Prompt
Type SFC /Scannow.
This will scan and fix any corrupted operating system files.

If you are still having problems after a SFC scan, then we can try a In-Place Upgrade which will do a repair of the operating system. You will need to have the DVD installation disk. An OEM recovery disk will not suffice.

Note: After performing In-Place Upgrade, your personal data and installed programs will not be removed but we may need to run Windows Update to install all the available updates for your system to update these system files to the current version. This troubleshooting process is time consuming and may take several hours to complete.

If your DVD installation disk is prior to Sp1, and you have SP1 installed on your computer, you will need to uninstall SP1 to complete the in-place upgrade and then reinstall the necessary windows updates .

If you would like to perform the In-place Upgrade, let's refer to the following steps.

1. Start the computer by using the current Operating System.

2. Insert the Windows Vista DVD in the computer's DVD drive.

3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate:

• If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now.

• If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:

a. Click Start, click Run, type Drive:\setup.exe, and then click OK.

Note Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive.

b. Click Install now.

4. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the current operating system to Windows Vista.

Please run Windows Update again as you will need to download and install the most current updates.

If you do not have the Windows Vista Installation DVD, I suggest contacting your PC manufacturer to order a backup disk.

Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

My Thinkpad/Lenova R51 had a hard drive failure. I got a new hard drive and installed it in the computer. Then I attempted to use the rescue and recovery cd and the product recovery cd's that came with...

The partition that had the Lenovo image was on the old hard drive not the new one you purchased, so you will not be able to restore from image. Look on the bottom of the laptop for the Windows version. Is it Windows XP Home or Windows XP Pro? You will need a Microsoft Windows disk to reinstall and you can use the serial number on the sticker to activate. This is all legal because the serial number belongs to the laptop. Unfortunately, finding a Windows software might be difficult. Ask a friend if they have a disk of the same operating system.

Might be easier to take to a tech and pay $60.00 (I wouldn't pay nmore than that) and have them reinstall basic windows and drivers for you.

Recovery Disk are free kit from your IBM Laptop but gone.
Supposed to be used for installing system or repair.
This time if you don't have, your going to buy a Bootable XP or Vista Pro its the same with your Recovery Disk CD.
Good luck!

Upgrade vista home premium

As per my knowledge, there is no version of Vista called Vista Professional like in Windows XP.
Make sure what is the version to which you want to upgrade to from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.
The available versions of Vista Operating Systems along with the features supported from the Link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx

However, if you want to Upgrade the current version of Vista to a higher version like Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, you need to purchase Vista Anytime Upgrade kit from any retail store or directly from Microsoft.
You can find the required information related to Anytime Upgrade Kit from the link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/anytime-upgrade-overview.aspx

However, make sure that you had created the Recovery Disks for your notebook using which you will be able to reinstall the preinstalled Operating Sytem along with all the Preinstalled Applications and Drivers after which you need to use the Vista Upgrade Kit to upgrade to higher version of Vista.
However, if you are currently having a 32 Bit Vista preinstalled in the Notebook, it is not possible to upgrade to a 64 Bit Vista since you can upgrade only a 32 Bit of Operating System to a higher version of 32 Bit Operating System and a 64 Bit Operating System to a higher version of 64 Bit Operating System.
Hope this helps....
