Card readers have stopped working on my HP pavilion desktop

The built in card readers have stopped working. The drives do not show up on windows explorer or control panel. The device manager under disk drives shows operating correctly. Under storage it shows them with a code 10. Tried finding new drivers. No joy. Tried uninstalling and rebooting. No joy. I've now disabled them as they are of no use. If I need to transfer photos, I now use USB ports.

There are 3 possible problems from my point of view.
1) The cardreader is not working so you need to change it.
2) The inside connections are not working proprietly or unplugged.
3) The operatin sistem has problems with this cardreader

Check the driver, see if it is working probraly, and may need to be reinstall or update... also check to see if your sd card would work on another machine. If it does, then it is not your card...sometimes windows won't reconize it until it's formated, but then in this case, it should reconize it, but you wouldn't be able to open it only. So i'm sure it's your driver, or the media card device is damaged. See if you notebook reconize the hardware in device manager

Memory card reader for hp pavilion doesnt work how do i find drivers or repair

If it worked before and then stopped working all of the sudden, it may be that a Windows Update caused a conflict with the driver software for the reader. Try going to the HP support website and see if more recent drivers are available. Start with and go to the support section. If it never worked and you think it might be a hardware problem, the easiest solution is to buy an inexpensive USB memory card reader. They're pretty simple to use and there are many kinds available.

How can i get my sdhc ultra 16gb memory card to show up

If it does not automatically show up when you put it into the card reader, go to start and click on "computer" (My Computer). A list of drives will show up. (C drive is your main drive). Identify your sdhc card and click on it. It will open unless your card reader isn't working (which is a separate problem).
