Easy Lock Serger Broken Lower Looper

I have a broken lower looper (the left hand one) on my Simplicity easy lock 804D serger. Does anyone know where I can order a replacement? Also, it looks likeI just need to unscrew the old one and screw in the new one. Is thattrue, or is it more complicated than that?

You will need to buy a new looper from a dealer with a spare parts account for this brand.
It is tricky to set up the loopers without a service manual, so best suggest you also have them install and service the machine at the same time or you risk breaking the new one if it is even slightly out of alignment.
You may also find that parts availability at this time of year will be restricted as many businesses and suppliers close for several weeks.

Elna serger is not creating chain stitch

Rethread! Your lose looper has a "hidden" eye all the way to the left. You will find task easy with serger looper tweezers and serger looper Threader; however, if you turn hand wheel to the left, the lower looper will slide in that direction. Now you will see that "hidden" hole now. It takes practice, but you can still thread it without the extra tools! Hope this helps and if it does, I will get point for if you give me rating since I offer my time free to help others. Jimmy

I need a manual for a Simplicity Easy Lock Serger SL4300. I got it from a friend and she didn't have the manual. The loops are over the top of the material sticking out to far and I do not know how...

You can purchase a manual for this machine from the following link for $US14.99

http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/instruction-manual-simplicity-sl4300.aspx

I can't see it anywhere for free download unfortunately. But you may find that looking at a manual for another 4 thread overlocker may get you started. If you try this link http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals you can look at the free Singer downloads,
try this link for their 654 3/4 thread model http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/555_14sh644_654-(e_s_f)-(new-led-version).pdf
it may give you some help now.

Essentially, to change the stitch width you can either move the lower fixed blade wider to cut less fabric or tighten up the upper and lower looper threads in order to close up the stitching.

Moving the blade usually means opening up the front cover door, putting pressure on the upper blade and swinging it up out of the way. Then you can adjust the lower blade, usally by turning a knob near to it. Sometimes this knob will be marked 1, 2, 3.

Adjusting the looper tensions is done by changing the tension dial settings for the thread needing adjusting. If its a standard four thread overlocker that produces a "marrow" seam it will have two needles and two loopers, upper and lower. Generally on most overlockers, the upper looper will be the second from right tension dial and lower looper will be right most tension dial - turn up one half number to tighten, or down one half number increment to loosen, then test stitch again. The needles shouldn't need adjusting too often.

I usually start with all tension dials on 5, test stitch, then adjust from there. Some fabrics will tunnel (pull in) if the seam is too wide so you need to either move the blade to the left and trim more fabric or loosen off the loopers. Or in the reverse, like you are getting, the threads will hang off the edge.

There is some good serger information on Debbis Cosgrove's pages www.sewing.about.com but if you have never used a serger, then getting the genuine manual is probably best.

I have been using my serger then suddenly it would cut and not serge. I am still unable to thread the "green" right hand threader.

Apparently either you have no needle threaded to lock the stitch or both loopers aren't correctly threaded. You must thread your UPPER looper first (don't know what color yours is), LOWER looper next, RIGHT needle next and last the LEFT needle if you are using the 4 thread overlock stitch. It sounds like you are having trouble with your lower looper. Look for the lower looper threader to help you thread it. Your manual should show you a picture.

Where is the upper looper on Baby Lock Eclipse model DX

This is what an upper looper looks like http://www.tradekey.com/selloffer_view/id/3755146.htm

It is the one in the back and point toward the needles.

The looper in the front is the lower looper and points away from the needles.

Open both doors on the front of the serger and you will see the loopers to the left of the thread ports.

The order in which to thread the serger

Your serger should be color coded for threading. Just do one at a time either left to right or right to left with the cones. And you should be all set.

Threading a serger

Always thread the lower looper first. Then the upper looper. Finish by threading the needles.
By the way, the lower looper is the one which is always below the needle plate and the upper one is the one which travels above the needle plate.
