Followup re Kenmore Upright freezer door problem Model No. 253 926 6412

Restatement of problem. The freezer door will not seal to the cabinet/frame. There have been no previous indications of any problem. What secures, i.e., seals, the door to the cabinet when the door is closed? Note: the seals are in good shape and clean. The unit is also square on the floor. Is the problem a parts problem, e.g., magnet? hinge? Adjustment problem? The problem could have occurred incrementally but without symptoms until the seal would not function or the problem could be a part or condition that simply occurred abruptly.

SOURCE: Upright freezer door inside developing ice

The door seal is at fault. Regardless of the small tear it is not sealing well.
Take a dollar bill and close it in the door. Then pull on the bill to feel resistance.
You will find it pulls easily in some place. That is where your air leak is that is causing the condensation.
Do this about every 6 inches all the way around the seal.

Kenmore freezer too warm

Are you referring to the internal temperature of the freezer? If so
have you checked that the door is closing ok and that the door seals are meeting the door frame all round?
It might be that the coolant gas has slowly leaked out. A good indication this has happened is that the bottom of the freezer is a lot warmer than the top. If this is the case a serviceman will need to drain the existing gas and then recharge, re-pressurise and seal.
If you are referring to the outside cabinet temperature then it's probably ok and there is no fault. You would expect the outside panels of a freezer to be around room temperature or warmer as the freezer removes heat from inside the cabinet and expels it outside.

Door seal not tight on upright freezer

Check the door sits straight and square on the front. You can "adjust" with the heel of your hand to make it sit flat against the frame. Even a poor seal shouldn't make frozen food thaw - check and clean the condenser and fan

My Kenmore freezer, model #253.9280212 runs but will not cool below 40 degrees. It runs all the time but I do not hear anything cut on and off. The freezer is 10 years old but looks brand new.

The first thing to check is door gasket< bad corners, gap in side, bottom or top. Close door on a dollar bill and try to slide it top to bottom side to side and if it slides fairly easy then seal is not doing good. If you find dirty area clean it off along with the cabinet side as well.If you find the side is leaking then heat gasket with hair dryer and apply vasoline to gasket to help it move freely. If you find tear or hole then replace it.

If the door seal does not seal completely, replace it. This is very important for freezers.

Kenmore freezer

if the gasket isn't torn and the gap isn't caused by a door hinge problem you might try putting some vaseline on the door seal. If that doesn't help you may have to replace the seal.

Upright freezer--manual defrost

I would check that the door gasket makes good contact with the cabinet. If it does then I would check the temp inside the cabinet. If you have large buildups of ice on the evaporator coils then I would suggest defrosting the freezer and see if that makes a difference. Hope this helps.
