Question about Maytag 25.6 cu. ft. Wide-By-Side Refrigerator with PuriClean II Ice and Water

Maytag Wide by Side model # MZD2766GEO

This past Thanksgiving, we noticed that the fridge was not cooling properly. We took eveything out of the the freezer side and took off the panel which covers the evaporator coil. It was frozen over with ice. We defrosted it with a hair dryer and replaced the panel, and the fridge started dropping degrees immediately. Now, of course, just in time for Christmas, we began having the same problem again. Just an hour ago, we went through the same process again, but this time it looks like the degrees in the fridge aren't dropping below 55. Wondering if we should call a repair person.

My maytag wide by side model mzd2766ge keeps getting water in the bottom of the freezer. I see that the back wall has bulged out and at times water runs down the back (inside to sit in the bottom). The interior of the freezer door is also frozen solid. And during warm weather will drip out the screw holes in the bottom. Also, the fridge has never been very cold, it has been set on the highest setting. Some spots in the drawers will freeze at times though....please help

About a month ago we notice that our fridge was getting warmer and that prompted us to look inside the freezer and notice that the freezer was frozen over at the coils, ice maker quit working and food not solid frozen like before. We defrosted the freezer and put everything back together. The fridge, freezer, icemaker and everything worked fine and now the freezer coils and wall are frozen again. We can't defrost everymonth. The only thing we have done recently is change the filter, but that was months aga. Sometimes the fridge makes noise up near the top where the light is, not sure if that would have anything to do with the ice up issue. Help!

We had this same problem. Called a repairman. There was a plug to the motor that was not shielded by the manufacturer. Ice built up and pushed the plug out. The repairman melted the ice and plugged it back in. He also shielded the plug to keep it from happening again. The plug was in a position that you couldn't get it unless you knew what you were doing. The whole repair cost $78.00 including the $54.00 for the service call.

You probably have a defective adaptive defrost timer causing ice to block air flow . It might still be frozen between the freezer and fridge.

Maytag Widey Side not cooling enough

Check to see if you have frost on the back panel of your freezer in your fridge. If you do your coil is frozen over and you'll have to defrost your freezer. I just did mine cause mine wasn't cooling properly on my fridge side. If it is that it's going to fill the pan under your fridge and overflow.

Fridge not cooling

evidently the fan that runs in the freezer and blows air into the main fridge has a circuit issue or the fan is frozen, but if the bulb does not work then its a circuit issue. likely on the same circuit as fan.

5 year old Maytag Wide by Side Refrigerator side not cooling

Same issue with my 6 yr old Maytag side-by-side model #MSD2756GEW. Turned out it was caused by a faulty circuit board. This circuit board is located in the upper right fridge section. Apparently these boards are sensitive to power surges (which we have here in central Texas from time to time.) When the circuit board is fried, it makes a noise like a fan blade malfunctioning and it stops the auto defrost feature in the freezer from working. So the freezer ices up at the back, and the ice prevents the cold air from reaching the fridge section.

Our circuit board (which we thought was a fan) made ominous noises for a few months. (The noise would last only a minute or so and stop shortly after we opened a door). Eventually we noticed that the fridge wasn't as cold and the freezer had snow in it. Finally the board stopped making noise and about a week or so afterward we noticed that the milk had spoiled and the fridge wasn't very cold. The food in the freezer side pretty solidly frozen, thankfully.

In addition to replacing the circuit board, the fridge had to be de-iced or it would not work properly. I put it all frozen into a large camping cooler where it stayed for several hours. I opened the freezer doors and put table fan and pointed a hobby light which gets quite hot, at the back of the freezer. Within 3 hours, the ice had melted significantly so I could see through the grate at the back of the freezer. This really great technician named Tracy, made a special trip to the parts store to get the circuit board and came back within a couple hours, bringing with him a steamer. He removed the back panel inside the freezer section (the coils are behind there) and used the steamer to melt the rest of the ice before he left.

Tracey, who works for a local appliance repair company, told me that about 4 years ago, Maytag started making their fridges with built-in surge protection, so the circuit boards apparently don't get fried on the newer models as they do on my 6 yr old model. He recommended that we put plug the fridge into a heavy-duty surge protector - which we are definitely going to do.
