Most of the time there is a air leak in one of the two crank shaft seals.to get to them you need to pull off the flywheel and the clutch assy.look for wet areas. that will be where the seal is letting out the oil and air.If you keep putting starting fluid in the carburator you will burn the rings, the piston and the cylinder up

Rebuilt carb & replaced fuel lines-fuel filter, saw started.ran last nite now today it wont start

If you put the pump on the carb and then the gasket, then cover, you assembled it wrong and the pump is letting gas just run out of the tank when the engine is off.

My Homelite chainsaw is hard to start and stops running after 5 to 10 seconds.

Could be the filter in the tank or the cap. The tank needs to be vented to allow fuel past the filter.

Homelite 16" 33cc chainsaw. Sarts but win't keep

Hello rick.... Get an aerosol can of starter fluid at your local autoparts store. Also get an assistant. Remove the air filter and start it up. Have your helper squirt some starter fluid into the air intake to keep it running for a couple minutes until the partial blockage in the carburater clears. Joe

primers pull fuel from the carb and dumps it back into the tank, so if the bulb will not prime the chances are the fuel filter in the tank is blocked, pull the fuel hose through the filer hole and replace the filter on the end.

Morning William:
Acceleration is the "L" needle, try 1/8 turn CCW. No better 3/16 CW.
Please install a new filter on the fuel line, you will be beat to death with carburetor overhauls if you do not.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com
http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20carb%20tune.htm
  • CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
  • Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
  • Clean the spark arrestor and muffler; if the saw cannot exhale it cannot inhale.
  • There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full - may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too.

Will not start - new fuel 50-1 mixture, checked filter- ok, spark plug sparks, cylinder has compression, finger test, 45cc, aprx 5 month old.

Will it start if you pull the plug and spray starting fluid in the chamber? if so then I'll bet you have a blown diaphragm in the carb or a plugged fuel filter or a bad gas line. hope this helps. Jeepfxr

look for choke problem or blocked air filter. Motor floods if it cannot get enough air to mix with fuel. Trigger, more fuel, flooding and cut out. Check air filter. Check choke not stuck on.
