Question about Proscan PS36123 TV

Service menu Hi; I need a working service menu sequence for a 1996 proscan ps36123 tv, chassis ctc169ej5. Got this set some time ago from a friend who got fed up with it's intermittant problems. Have solved major faults and been using set for a while now but finally decided to fix last trouble which I have worked around with vcr tuner. Had to make more fixes to tv tuner, and although problem is solved (hi freq air channels would quit), I need to retune them. Have tried various sequences including : hold menu, push power, then vol> (only works on 27 in chassis'); simultaneously press menu, vol<, ch< for 15secs (doing this with menu,+ gives green light but no hv/pic)!!; hold vol<, ch< and wait for green power light. Looks like there is a dif sequence for this earlier set since the control buttons are ; -,+,menu,ch<,ch>,vol<,vol>,power Help or I'll have to fiddle with coils!!

Proscan RCA 36" Manufactured by Thomson Consumer Electronics Model PS36123 36 Diagonal The problem is that the picture shrinks down to a horezental line across the center of the screen. If I tap the TV hard...

In the UK I'm not familiar with this American set, but what I can tell you is there is a number of dry solder joints on or around the field output IC causing what is known as FIELD COLLAPSE.

To find bad joints I use a long, thin and round piece of wood (remember wood does not conduct) I just tap around the board until I hit the right part and you know when you have by the results on the screen then you can switch off and resolder.

If you are going to attempt the job yourself - BE CAREFUL - high voltages are generated inside TV sets and pay attention to the panel fitted to the tube base this will give you one hell of a kick if you touch it!

BUT.....if you are not confident of doing this yourself and have any doubts then don't do it yourself and get a TV engineer in sort it out.

Proscan ctc169ej5 no picher

There is no brightness control inside the set. You control the brightness and other picture adjustments with the remote control. If the brightness level is already at its normal setting, the problem is in the TV's video stage and is caused by some component failure. It's not possible to suggest any specific parts to check, and you should see about having the set serviced by a professional who would have the service information and tools to diagnose and repair the trouble.

Distorted picture on my 32" Proscan TV...(about 15 years old)

The RCA GE sets have a problem with bad solder connections in the tuner unit which also causes numerous symptoms including poor regulation, no vertical deflection, low audio or dead set.

Pulling in from the sides is either poor regulation or a bad eeprom/solder join issue

What is your customer service number

Hello amy123478,

Proscan is owned by RCA, but they have very little support for that product any more. RCA created another company to deal with the product it is They may have support for your TV set.

The chassis number is CTC169CG5 (This may help you find service data) since this same chassis is used in RCA models.

Any shop servicing RCAs should be able to find this chassis number and provide service to you, if RCA or Thomson Electronics is non-responsive to you.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

27" proscan tv

This is a sign that there are either bad caps in the vertical circuit or bad connections at the vertical IC. CAn you solder? If so, resolder the pins on the vertical IC first and post the results here. The vertical IC will be a small flat IC attached to a heatsink with about 9-11 pins. It may be marked LA7837 or something similar.

Keep us posted.

Click, click, click and nothing else.

your set have gone into shutdown,it will try 3 time to correct itself then shut down you might all have different faults. call your local shop and ask for an est, cost to repair ,it may not be all that bad news. depending on your chassis type there different quick fixes to save money and time ,when you post your sets always say what chassis also./st
