Remove the agitator to see if there is a coin or bobby pin wedged underneath.

Put old coupler back on transmission shaft. Can you now turn coupler? You should not be able to. If you can, grooves in coupler are stripped out. Replace coupler. Part # WH49X10042

Mav39 fills, drains, wont agitate, makes loud riviting like noise instead of agitating. took off agitator and the mechinisim that would activate the agitator isn't moving, but making this loud noise....

There is a coupler if this is a direct drive machine. Tilt the unit back and look under for a pile of rubber shavings or a couple of broken plastic bits. The coupler is easy to change by removing the cabinet with the gold clips at the top. Then remove the clips from the pump and hold that out of the way. Remove the screws and clips from the motor after disconnecting the wiring harness. The coupler is on the shaft of the motor and the gearcase. Replace all three pieces...there are two hard plastic three fingered bits with a rubber isolator.
If you have a belt then it is very likely that you have a bad gearcase and you may consider a new machine for cost reasons. The coupler should be under $25.

My washer did not spin agitate or pump. When I

you could have 2 problems,, first one- the motor bearings could be locked up-or the motor could be burnt--if so you would smell it-- could have something logded in side the pump fan--the older models you can take apart & dislodge the item--the newer ones have to replace the whole pump..

The agitator will not turn by hand, is it supposed to be able to be turned by hand? the coupler is broken and I am replacing it and would like to know if the transmission is frozen thus causing the coupler...

since your there replacing the coupler with the plastic part attached to the tranny turn it by hand and see if your tranny is locked up, should be able to turn it and see the clutch turning also,, most of the time an out of balance load is what breaks the coupler

Model 110.24902200 will not agitate and will not spind

If the washer fills and and empties and you can hear the motor, then the most likely fault is a broken coupler. The water pump is mounted directly on the rear of the motor and the motor/pump assy is attached to the transmission using a three piece coupler (part # 285753, $18.50). One of the two identical pieces of the coupler is attached to the motor output shaft and the second is mounted on the transmission input shaft. The third piece is a rubber part that allows the coupler to break in certain situations to protect motor. When this coupler fails the motor will still drive the water pump but the agitator will not move. A broken coupler can be identified simply by looking at it. Flip the machine and look for it between the motor and transmission.

The agitator is fastened to the agitator shaft and its movement is driven either by splines or a simple clutch assembly. The splines are usually plastic or rubber nubs on a cylinder that fits over the agitator shaft. If the nubs wear down, the shaft will not turn properly or it will turn weakly. If the agitator is moving in only one direction, the likely cause is the clutch assembly. The clutch has dogs that depress and pop up with each turn. If those dogs are worn, they will not engage properly and the agitator will turn only in one direction. Another issue that might cause this disruption is the Motor coupler.

Washers with a direct drive motor have a motor coupler instead of a belt. The motor coupler consists of three plastic disks (or tri-stars) with interlocking tabs. Those tabs can wear and break which results in slippage. The slippage causes little or no power to be transferred to the transmission. A worn motor coupling can result in weak or no movement of the agitator and spin basket. Inspecting the motor couplers requires removing the motor, which is fairly easy to do.

Remove the cabinet. Locate the motor. The pump is mounted to one side of the motor. You do not have to remove the hoses from the pump unless they prevent you from moving the pump out of your way. If you must remove the hoses, label where they connect first. To disconnect the hoses, pinch the wire clamps with pliers (or loosen the screw) and slide the clamp farther up the hose. Slide the hose off of the pump port.

There are two clips that secure the pump housing to the motor. Use a screwdriver to pry up the clips and remove the cover. Next, slide off the pump to reveal the motor. Disconnect the wiring harness from the motor, do not pull on the wires themselves. The motor typically is secured with retaining clips and bolts. Remove the bolts and use a screwdriver to pry up the clips (if present). Remove the motor.

Mounted on the shaft of the back of the motor you will find the motor coupler. Separate the three disks and inspect them for damage. If you find cracks or excessive wear, replace the coupler.

**(((If the motor couple is in good condition, replace the agitator components and clutch assembly as well.)))
