Carrier 48sx gas pack. Won't turn on. No smell. No igniting sound. Blower fan works. How do I troubleshoot this?

Remove the panel from the heater section, you will need to watch what happends as there is a call for heat. There may be a light on the control board that lights up or blinks to indicate a call for heat. The inducer blower (exhaust blower) will start. INn a few seconds after the blower starts, the igniter will glow orange. After a few more seconds the gas valve should open and the burner will ignite. If the inducer does not run, you may have a bad motor or control board. If the igniter does not glow, you could have a bad pressure switch, bad pressure switch hose or a broken igniter. If the gas valve does not open, you may have a bad control board or bad gas valve. If you get no light on control board, bad fuse, bad thermostat or bad control board.

I have a Carrier Weathermaker 8000 furnace. it will not light.I tested the igniter on my upstairs furnace and it will glow and light that furnace. I can manualy light the furnace with a match. flame sensor...

If you're sure the igniter is good and the controller is sending voltage to gas valve to open, but not to the igniter then, yes, the controller is bad. The only way to know for sure is to remove the igniter's molded plug from the board and test voltage directly at the board. You should get about 100-120 vac to the igniter.

Heater is on firing up- everything seems ok but there is nogas-goes thru the cycle with igniter glow orange but does not ignite- there doesnt seem to have any gas present to ignite weathermaker 8000

the igniter has to have proper omhos to open gas valve.
recommend replacing igniter. be careful not to touch new igniter with bare hands. oils in the skin of your hands will cause the igniter to get too hot and burn out quick

Furnace wont run

First of all when you flip the switch, it goes thru a startup sequence. THEN it turns on the Igniter (notice the red glow). Then the gas turns on.

Now at this point check the idiot light and it should be giving you a code of 34. That 34 (3 shorts 4 longs) says that there was a problem igniting the furnace. After it cycles thru at least 4 times and fails to ignite all the blowers, then is when you get a code 14 (1 short 3 longs)

NOTICE what's happening with ALL the burner Tubes each time it attempts to ignite. If only one or two are running....then this is your problem.
To fix all you do is take out the burner Tubes, look for debris, blow them out (blow from the front where all the jets are), and replace them in sequence from left to right (the tabs overlap).

My Amana furnace is acting up.  The pilot light works just fine and the system starts up but then shuts off immediately.  It will keep trying to start but then just blows out cold air.  Then after trying...

The furnace is not sensing the flame and is shutting off the gas. What kind of pilot do you have? If you have a Hot Surface Igniter(glow coil) It will try to igniter three times and go into safety default for awhile to clear any gas that may be in the area.
Check to see if you have a small rod that protrudes into the flames. It's usually located on the burner on the opposite end of the pilot but may be closer. Clean it with sand paper. if that works then it bought you time to get a new one. They are inexpensive.
If you have a spark igniter then clean the rod(s) on the igniter. This may work but not as often as the HSI. Good luck.

Carrier furnace weathermaker 8000

. Several times of recyling power normally brings the furnance up. Though the failure code has always been 31, there are several different behaviour when the blower starts after reset :
a. blower simply creases.
b. there is an attempt to start the heating unit (I hear the high pitch noises), then everything stops.
c. there is an attempt to start the heating unit (I hear the high pitch noises), once I see the orange glow from the coil, normally the gas is lit up and the unit starts working.
