I have the same problem with that. It's so hard to find a same problem untill I find "Synaptics Touchpad Driver Problem?". You known, I'm in the otherside of Earth from your side.My NB is a toshiba, with Synaptics too.
I think it's a hardware problem, but still have some hope.
I wonder to know did it work now, please?

It isn't likely that your laptop charger is the problem and it is more likely that is is just your touch pad. So you shouldn't buy a new laptop charger unless you absolutely think you have to. If you do, make sure that you buy it from HP instead of a third party for a lower chance of problems. It's more likely that it's just your touch pad that is faulty.
hello, this has been one of the most reported problem with the 5100 model. i have 2 of them, and they have done the same thing! one i had 2 find and install a new mainboard-400 bucks! not very cost friendly. i did post a solution more than a year ago, but it is a work around that let me use the acer with the dead keyboard,touchpad,usb- you must buy a pcmcia usb card, it goes in the slot on the left side of the acer 5100. then a usb mouse and keyboard will work. (you can get this cardbus adapter cheap, as 400 bucks is 2 much. these pcmcia cardbus card come with 2 or 4 ports. this will let you use the pc, it has been a great solution for me and a lot of others, been in use over a year like this. acer is no help, unless you wish 2 spend a large amount of $. the one with the new board lasted about 8 months before the usb port stopped working for the second time, i then got a second cardbus usb card and have usb again. sorry for your problem.. good luck! do as i say and the acer will work again.( a problem model) just search for pcmcia usb cardbus you will find many 2 choose from- i picked the ones with the NEC chipset, as these are reliable! be well!
I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad drivers from Device Manager.
Press Windows Key and R key.
Type devmgmt.msc and click on OK.
In the Device Manager expand Mouse and other pointing devices.
Right click on touchpad and select Uninstall.
Right click on the touchpad now and select scan for hardware changes.
You can even try to reinstall the new touchpad drivers for your notebook model from acer support website.
For Rundll has stopped working, follow the steps in the below weblink:
http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers download and setup your touchpad driver again. if still countine your problem then you may have a hardware problem with notebook. have a nice day and sorry for my english.
Your english is very good :c) This link here will show you everything you need to know about the memory for your computer. Basically, 2 GB maximum of DDR2-PC2-5300. I do not know if they ship internationally or not but if you write down the specifications I'm sure you can get it locally. Oh and another thing if you could kindly give this solution a fixya rating, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! :c)
try going back to vista. I know your probably one of those die hard love xp hate vista people, but vista has gotten a lot better. it looks like your laptop was made for vista and sorry to say it but i doubt that a lot of your hardware is supported by xp. and hp/Compaq's are actually pretty decent while i cannot say that i have experience with your notebook i have had a pretty decent experience with hp/compaq in general. but overall it sounds like your notebook is fairly new and microsoft mandated that vista be on all new comps. so hp probably didn't see a need to put out drivers for xp seeing as how it was meant for vista anyways.
