Recently had a Bios upgrade. The next day a 2 inch black stripe appeared down the middle of screen. Is this fixable?

I have a Toshiba Qosmio G10 which has just developed the same problem. Nothing's been done to it, not been dropped, no system changes. It started with a 2ins wide vertical black strip down the screen, after trying to fix it, it started to resemble more of a vertical barcode striping and now is simply a faded area on screen with small horizontal lines visible in the strip area. Any ideas?

I have an IBM think pad that developed a 2 inch black strip on the left side of my dispaly. I tried restoring to a previous setting, I updated video drivers, I reset display properties. None of the above worked and am now thinking of formatting and reinstalling windows as a last hope unless someone has any other ideas.

could be a virus, try microsoft security essentials (free). If not virus then it sounds heat related, try cleaning any dust out of the intakes with a soft brush and nearby vacuum. I imagine it will need taking apart at some point and investigating for dry joints etc

Hi

Reflashing the bios doesn't make any difference.

Check in the BIOS Screen whether notebook scree has the same issue if it is the same then it is a hardware issue if it is fine in the bios screen then need to run the hdd and memory test

After the test result we can decide next steps

> If hdd and memory test passes - then reload the os.

To login to bios - Reboot the system and keep tap on f10

well im not a great tech but i can give you one solution, you can try to connect it to ANY monitor from the VGA port of your laptop, just find a PC monitor to do this with. to "flip" the screen to different angles you will have to be logged on.

Hope this helps, i you have any further questions just ask

Try to reinstall the video driver from Safe mode.
It appears your hard disk is OK but the operating system and or registry is corrupted.
1. Try installing the video driver first.
2. If it still does not work, back up your data files in Safe Mode then re-install XP again, make sure you delete the partition and create a new partition and do a full NTFS format, not a quick format.

Acer 5670 screen has dark transparent vertical stripe

you will need to check the display cable and if that is ok, you will need to replace the display panel... You're getting a short on the circuit board causing rows of pixels to be blocked out

Here's your display on ebay...
