Does the lamp go off, or does the "shutter" block the light out.

Check poewer connection
Check if fan filder is dirty ( if it is just hoover it out)
If "lamp" light on top of the projector blinks or stays lit - lamp probably faulty
How old is the Projector/lamp (average lamp life is around 2000-3000 hours)

That is a lot of disassemble for a nylon thread-race that has been stripped. I would use a rubber-band wrapped around and around it in a neutral position and using the other two to make adjustments. 1min fix. vs 1day+

Then when u'v found a height that works best u can cut a piece of tubing lengthwise and slip it over or make a set of them in different heights.

if it is a DLP projector then the DMD on the engine is likely bad or the main board is bad. The white things are pixels.

What type of cable are you using to connect the projector to your laptop? if VGA you have ti press "FN" and F5 or the F key that has a monitor symbol on it. Try using a different cable as well and if it has an auto search button on the projector try pressing it.

Possible cause is overheating.
Do you hear the fan working?
What happens when you use the lowest level light output?
Does it run longer?

Also possible cause is a faulty temp sensor.
AC wire connection may not be firmly pressed in socket.

When you first replaced the bulb it went back on and then later it did not. Most projectors have a safety switch that it is activated upon the bulbs cover placed. Once the cover is removed it activates the switch and shuts down power to bulb. It sounds based on your remarks, that this switch may have intermitten problems. I would suggest, locate this switch and verify its operation. Or, make sure the bulb cover is placed and/or secured properly.

There do appear to be quite a few similarities and differences between the models, but unfortunately if a manual is available online for the 756 then i couldnt find it. Hope it helps at least a bit :)
