Yes it will heat. The two are normally not dependent on the other. The element could be bad. Check the breaker first, then the connections in the back, then the element. The timer could be bad itself allowing it to run all night. This could be a blessing in disguise as the clothes would have been damanged possibly from all the excess heat.

DRYER WILL NOT HEAT UP AND DRY CLOTHES ALSO TIMER IS STUCK

No heat & timer stuck would be an indication that the motor in the timer is not functioning or there is something wrong or jambed on the internal mechanism of the timer. There are no fuses inside the dryer, if you do not understand the basics of electricity and how to test things, then I would not suggest you attempt this yourself. No heat can be a number of problems(1)faulty element (2)open limit switch (3)bad breaker or circuit in the main electrical panel (4)inoperative timer (BUT) if there isn't 240VAC @ the dryer then the timer may not be getting any power at all, chances are, if you can't move the timer it is more than likely no good. If the dryer is still under warranty, enquire at the place you purchessed it from.

Will dryer work if timer is inoperative

Check the breaker first, then check the connections in the back of the dryer, then check the element itself. It may be burned in two. The timer may be coincidentally bad as well.

Whirlpool drier has no heat and won't shut off . . .

it was most likely caused by the timer not turning off and burning out the heating element or a temperature switch or tripping one side of the circuit breaker in the house. it really needs to be checked out by a professional. unless it is old then you might want to replace it.
  • best case scenario:
  • the breaker has tripped (turn it off then back on to find out)
  • the TIMER MOTOR is the only problem <$30
If the timer itself is bad then it will cost a lot more.
