Question about Apple Studio 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
At startup the screen comes on with good color but after fully booted the image turns darker and more contrasty with most gradations in tone gone. This has occurred for a long time but I discovered a work-around in OS 10.4 Tiger by opening a .jpg file in Preview, clicking Slideshow and closing and color would be good until shutdown. Now under OS 10.5 Leopard the workaround fails. Any ideas?

Hi Lusciousleri, Some Apple LCD panels can report problems then encounter. I'm betting if you watch you'll see a pattern of a short flash, followed by another short flash followed by a long and then repeating. That indicates a backlight error, which typically means a trip to the authorized Apple repair shop. Let us know if you have any other questions and please don't forget to rate the posting.

For the brave of heart, You can disassemble the monitor. After you get in to the inside of it, you'll see a circuit panel with 6 ballast coils on it. On my Cinema display, what happened was that the solder joints on some of those coils had cracked, causing intermittent connection. After hitting all the connections with a soldering iron to heal the cold solder joints and re-assembling it, it is working perfectly fine now.

Had a similar problem with similar symptoms. Try unplugging the firewire and usb. Might help for a while. It did for me. In the end I risked the price of a new power supply. That fixed it and my 23" has been working fine since. Have to order the power supply directly by contacting Apple's service people. I found no other way to get one.
