I have a Quantum DLT4000 and I need it to back up tapes on the
SGI we have at work. The problem is that it is unknown to the
system.
I went into /var/sysgen/master.d/scsi and found that it was not
there. How do I add? In Solaris I just dump with the density and
blocking factors and it is fine. But I can't get this DLT to do
anything on the SGI.
Help......

There was a small error on that page, so if you used it,
you'll want to go back and fix your kernel. The only difference is
the MTCAN_LEOD setting has been changed to MTCAN_SPEOD. I've sent a
note to Quantum that their documentation is wrong, but who knows when
and if it will get fixed.
Thanks to Tom Mander for pointing out the error.

Add the following lines just after the "SGI" "DLT2000" entry to
the above file:
/* DEC THZxx DLT drive */
{ DECDLT, TPDLT, 7, 7, "Quantum", "DLT4000", 0, 0,
{0, 0, 0, 0}, MTCAN_BSF|MTCAN_BSR|MTCAN_APPEND|MTCAN_LEOD |
MTCAN_CHKRDY|MTCAN_VAR| MTCAN_SETSZ|MTCAN_SILI|MTCAN_SEEK|
MTCAN_SYNC|MTCAN_CHTYPEANY,
20, 8*60, 20*60, 5*60, 4096, 64*1024 },
Only the last entry should not have a comma after the close brace "}".
Then run "autoconfig -v", make sure that the kernel rebuild
works without errors and reboot. It should work much better afterwards.
Some of the SGI patches replace the scsi file with a new one, so
if you install patches, verify that the DLT4000 entry is still
there before rebuilding the kernel.

So, could you tell me why the comments in that file weren't enough
to tell you what to do? I tried to make it really obvious...
I did add a few more comments to the 6.2 version, but since I don't
know what's not clear to people, it's hard to guess what else to
add.
