When prompted I can't leave a message in any mailbox.
When it is time to leave a message, the attendant responds that the message is too short...the problem is, is there is never a beep to record and never a chance to actually leave the message. I have a Partner VS release 5 system....Also, if there is a power outage, I have to reprogram the entire system EVERY time!!

To access your voicemail messages remotely, call your office and when the auto attendant answers enter in ** your mailbox number your password and # (**,222,1234,#). If entered correctly you will hear the amount of new and saved messages you have and also be prompted to make selections fror playing reviewing and such.
I'm no expert, but I have had a lot of trial and error experience with this set. Is your Auto Attendant on? This feature is designed to be like an operator for multi mailboxes. If it is, turn Auto Attendant off and record the greeting for mailbox 1. Hope this helps!
Try checking to see if Auto Attendent has been activated at the base. Auto Attendant acts as a virtual (though confusing!) operator if you have multiple mailboxes activated. When it's off, Mailbox 1 should be the default and just play your recorded greeting only.
P.S. I had a similar problem and figured out it was actually saying mailbox Enter Mailbox 1 to 4. ;) Hope this Helps!!
I have the Merlin Legend system. To change to auto attendant is an "administrator" funtion. From the main console, go into the administrator mailbox-enter passwords-go to the #3, which is automated attendant-press 1 for Day menu-press 6 to modify the menu. The menu "prompt" is what you want to change-the recording. If you no longer have an administrator or someone that knows the administrator's mailbox number and passwords, you will probably have to call Avaya and pay them the $650/hr they now want for remote programming, OR calla alocal person with Merlin Legend programming expertise.
The mailboxes don't need to have saved messages, to be full. More then likely what is happening is that when people call in, they are getting a generic/Auto Attendant vm box, and that one is full. Try checking vm box #100, or #10. That is the Nortel standard general delivery vm box.
Please let me know is this helps, or if you more help.
