So you burned discs of the applications that came pre-installed on the computer? They aren't going to work as far as I know. They do this so we can't burn numerous copies of a program and give it to our friends. Software companies would not make very much money if everyone could do this.

Do I need a new hard drive for my acer d260?

It sounds more like you haven't installed ubuntu correctly. Why do you think the drive is faulty, was it giving drive errors before you loaded ubuntu? Does the bios have s.m.a.r.t. disk checking enabled?

If you can get back into ubuntu perhaps by booting off an ubuntu disk you can check the disk - here's how How to run checkdisk
If not take the drive out get a sata to usb converter and run a disk checking utility on a friends machine
for example chkdsk space diskletter colon space / f
chkdsk e: /f

Just find a generic Win 7 install disk (borrow one from a friend) and use it to install - the key for it should be on the sticker. This will fix everything else, including the botched install problems. Later download and install its drivers yourself from here

First thing I'd do would be to run a hard drive scan from a cd or bootable USB. It sounds very much like a hardware problem and failed hard drives are very common occurances. Given the age of your PC that seems to be the most likely cause of this problem but a hdd scan will confirm that. Unfortunately you'll need access to a PC to get those tools ready.

This could be your HDD, failed. Work through, the troubleshooting procedures.
Anyway try this below first. After turn on goes to black screen says missing operating system

That sounds like a serious issue either with the operating system or the hard drive itself. The best place to start is to determine if your system came with a Windows installation disc. If so, you might be able to perform a repair installation that does not affect any of the programs or files already existing on the computer. If you don't have a Windows installation disc but have an Acer restore CD or a restore partition on the hard drive, there's a very good chance running that will wipe out everything on the hard drive and restore it to factory fresh condition. If that appears to be the only option, you may have to take the hard drive to a friend or repair facility that can backup your personal data to DVD before running the restore CD.

Vista was pre installed on my pc how do i install a clean copy on my hard drive with no disc?? i have an acer aspire t690

A friend of mine had that problem. She contacted Acer and said she did not have a chance to make a backup disk and she needs to re-install the operating system. Within a few days Acer sent her the backup disks.
Just call Acer and ask for it, like she did. If that should not work for you, come back and someone will walk you through to put a copy of your drive on a cd. Hope things work out for you!
