MY SAMSUNG HPT4264 42 IN PLASMA TV WENT BLANK

AFTER I DOWNLOADED A FIRMWARE FROM THE SAMSUNG WEBSITE, I TURNED OFF THE TV, TURNED IT BACK, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE LIGHT LED LIGHTS SIGNALS THAT IT'S RECEIVING THE REMOTE COMMAND, BUT NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS. I UNPLUGGED IT AND PLUGED IT AGAIN . NOTHING. BUT I DO SEE THAT THE SCREEN SEEMS TO BE ON WHEN IT'S PLUGGED BUT NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS.

THE EXPERT TOLD ME WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT WASN'T CLEAR ENOUGH ABOUT HOW TO FIX IT. HE TOLD ME I NEED TO RESET THE FIRMWARE BUT I DIDN'T GIVE ANY EXPLANATION ON HOW TO DO IT.

  • JERRY AMBROISE Dec 27, 2008

HIS EXPLANATION WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY INFORMATIONAL AND MADE ME UNDERSTAND MY PROBLEM A BIT BETTER BUT I ALREADY TOOK THE USB DEVICE OUT. TRIED UNPLUGGING AND PLUGGING BACK THE TV BUT MY SCREEN STAYS BLANK. I HAVE NO MENU, NO SOUND, NOTHING. IS THERE A WAY TO REINSTALL THE FIRMWARE WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE MENU OR WILL I HAVE TO REPLACE THE BOARD. IF I HAVE TO REPLACE IT WHERE COULD I ORDER IT?

  • JERRY AMBROISE Dec 27, 2008

I ALREADY CONTACTED SAMSUNG. MY TV IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I'M WAITING TO HEAR WORD FROM THEM TO SEE IF THEY'LL COVER THE COST. ABOUT THE SOFTWARE? WHERE COULD I FIND IT? AND WOULD I HAVE TO OPEN THE BACK OF THE TV TO CONNECT MY LAPTOP I DON'T SEE ANY 9 PIN INPUT ON MY TV.

  • JERRY AMBROISE Dec 27, 2008

THERE IS NO MENU ON MY TV. HOW CAN I DOWNLOAD IT WITHOUT THE MENU?

  • JERRY AMBROISE Dec 27, 2008

I'M JUST WEIGHTING ALL THE OPTIONS. I'M JUST WORKING ON HAVING SAMSUNG FIX IT SINCE THEY DID NOT POST ANY WARNINGS ON THE WEBSITE ABOUT THE POTENTIAL HAZARDS OF INSTALLING THE FIRMWARE .

I'M JUST WAITING ON WORD FROM SAMSUNG TO SEE IF THEY'LL COVER THE COST. AND I'M ALREADY RESEARCHING CONSUMER ADVOCACY GROUPS. I THINK SAMSUNG SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONTENT OF THEIR WEBPAGES AND COULD'VE AT LEAST POSTED A WARNING ABOUT THE RISK OD DOWNLOADING THEIR FIRMWARE.

SIr, PLEASE do not consider the solution regarding the capacitors. If you follow that banal advice, you are headed for a severe electrical shock.

Experts Ginko and Gymowner are very reliable experts, you can trust those two gentlemen.

Firmware is soul of any digital equipment and afraid to say its fried now.
Samsung is only option now and TV requires new system control board.

If TV is not starting, and is on protect mode (standby and does not start) you need to connect a laptop with specific software using TV data port (9 pins). This admitting that the problem is firmware.

This is an expensive set. If the TV is less than two years old, it is mandatory calling Samsung at the number listed on the owner manual, to validate factory warranty, or to arrange a warranty extension.

The diagnostic software is only distributed to Samsung authorized repairmen.

Your model must have an USB at the back , therefore does not need any RS232 9 pin port, USB is the data port.

Contact back Samsung and insist to have the repair covered. This does not look like an home repair.

Hi
I think what has happened is that your power supply malfunctioned and what has happened is that a capacitor has blown up. I would suggest that you do a complete search of the power supply to determine the location of the blown capacitor, I would advise getting a schematic to aid you in this. If you don't have experience in electronics I would also advise taking the set to the shop or calling a repairman to take care of this issue.

Ok take out the memory stick thst you put in the usb of the TV and see if it works, that's the first thing we will need to know. There is a specific way to Flash a TV, and to be honest with you, you should not attempt to do this yourself if your TV is working. If you screwed up the eprom in the TV it can be fixed but if it's not broke don't mess with it, it's like the Bios in a computer a lot of folks feel it necessary to flash to the latest Bios when there is no Benefit for them inn doing so, only possibly killing the board. Same here, every time you flash A tv's bios, firmware, uou take the chance of permanent damage. There is a specific way to do this and it is also on the same site as the flash, but if it works, please do yourself a favor and leave it alone.

I took this off of the samsung forum ,just to show my point to you,

After a dozen daft emails from Samsung they eventually acknowledged the problem and advised me to fall back to the previous s/w - which I was already doing; guess they didn't read that part of my note

They said the problems would be resolved in a new download available in April - (I think others in this thread have also been told that).

As it's now May I was wondering if anyone has been offered the new download yet ?

Hopefully this time round things will be fine but one of my concerns is that if the new s/w still has problems will the original 'good' version still be in the menu to switch to? i.e. Will the menu only hold the latest two s/w downloads t

Call your warranty company, you are getting a lot of bad advice, this should not be handled by people who are not certified in repairing your particular set. These are guesses, and when an item costs several thousand dollars, you don't want people giving you information based on what the read on the internet. You need to call the experts, in your case "samsung", before you void the warranty, then you will be up the creek, you need to tell them that the tv just stoped working and leave the part out about your interaction with the process you described. As an OnForce Tech, I can tell you that if this is an off warranty service it will normally cost you around $250 for a 2 hour job and that is what this problem requires.

What do you think is wrong with my television, it has sound but no picture. How can I fix the problem?

Hi there
I would go to menu on the remote , from there to picture go down the list, if you do not find anything there to help you. Go to Support and to the E manual .
