Can't ''see'' RAM

Upgraded my laptop (originally 64 m) and now half the time it doesn't ''see'' the upgrade. Local tech has worked on it twice - and charged - without permanent fix. Any ideas?

    Toshiba Satellite 2800-S201

That's what the tech put in. The computer appears to "lose" contact when it's moved. In one position, it works at 320, in another it only sees 64. He took the card back out and tested it in another computer and it worked fine - it appears to be a glitch with the connection in my machine.

What memory did the tech install? And what did he charge you for?
Verify that the memory you have installed is PC-100 and the most you can add is one DIMM of 256 MB. (which will total the max , 320 MB.)
The Toshiba Satellite 2800-S201 uses PC-100 type memory and usually ships from Toshiba with 64MB of RAM. The Satellite 2800-S201 supports up to 320MB of RAM. Maximizing your system memory will allow your Satellite to operate as fast as possible and offer the most productive environment.
    Specifications

    • Banks: 1
    • Fixed RAM: 64MB
    • Maximum RAM: 320MB
    • Sockets: 1
    • Speed: PC-100
    • Standard RAM: 64MB

Check the pins on the slot, there may be a bent pin or it may that the clips are not holding the memory in place.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Did you check if your computer is capable of running Windows 8 comfortably? Have you followed the upgrade procedure? 2 GB memory seems rather too little. What was the original Windows version? XP, Vista, Windows 7. Was the original OS 32 bits or 64 bits?

Upgraded ram 1gb wont boot hp 510 mobo 30C4

If you added another 512Mb RAM to increase the RAM to 1Gb then the new 512Mb memory stick could be incompatible with the original 512Mb or it could be faulty.
Use RAM that is same make and speed as the original RAM.
Remove both RAM and just insert the new 512Mb into your laptop and see if the laptop boots up, if not then the RAM could be faulty.

How to get Drivers Updates after Windows 8 Upgrade for Toshiba C660D Laptop Please

This is a common problem with a new OS upgrade. Try to use Win 7 drivers. Modtify the drivers to be compatible with Win 8. Most times this will work, not always. Try here for Win 7 32 or 64 bit drivers: http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK&mode=allMachines&action=search&teddProduct=6017&selShortMod=1041

I upgrade RAM on laptop, now runs slower. Running 64-bit WIN 7 OS,

Check BIOS if all RAM is being picked and or set to max on RAM settings.

Upgrading BIOS! If it isn't broken don't fix it. Upgrading is a scapegoat fix, and many manufactures have a disclaimer. "You are on you own, and the likes for a reason. Most solutions are found elsewhere.

However, if you truly need to update read this to help you with the upgrade.

PS. Many applications are written for 32 bit, hence they are unable to fully utilize 64 bit and may be bound to 4GB.

WHAT IS THE OS FOR A TOSHIBA A 105 LAPTOP IS IT 32 BIT OR 64 BIT

this computer is shipped with windows xp 32 bit, can be upgraded to vista. As for 32 or 64 bit?, the only difference you will see between them is if you have more than 3 gig of ram installed a 64 bit O/S will see and use all the ram, where a 32 bit O/S is limitted to 3gig of memory it can address.
Personally, I believe you will have a lot easier time finding the 32bit drivers for your laptop and printer. 64bit drivers for older hardware are sometimes very difficult to find. GO with 32bit on this laptop.
Regards!

    Upgrading Ram/Bios

You do have to have a 64 bit OS so that windows will recognise 4 Gig of Ram.

I have Vista Ultimate 64 Bit and 4 gig of ram in my laptop. I upgraded the OS Before I upgraded the Ram, this might be something that Microsoft Address in the near future. so if you dont want the expense of buying Vista X64 then hold off for a little bit. Although 64 Bit doesn make more sense when you are getting to the limits of 32 bit
