Question about EliteGroup ECS 755-A2 Motherboard

1 Answer

No sound I have a ECS755-2A Rev 1.0 board with a AMD Hammer processor. The machine was set up for me by a friend for a gift and all the work was done before a recieved it. I dont have the disk for the board. Now the problem is that I dont have any sound (I am using the onboard sound setup ) after loading a new XP or fresh XP installation. I dont have the disks and I am concerned that I may have to reload the bios (which I dont have and I cant find online. ) I have tried loading various Realtek ALC 655 drivers. No luck. If someone could point me in the right direction or correct my thinking that would be great. Thankyou in advance.

Try this, often drivers get corrupted when trying to re install, go into the device manager and un-install the the device itself. The realtek, sound onboard device, and reboot, it should pick up the hardware on reboot, then it's going to tell you it has found the software for the harware, at this point you can try pointing it to the driver file that you downloaded or let windows decide, try one and if it dosen't work try the other, this should solve the issue, if it is trying to re insatll a corrupted file the new one you downloaded will work, also on my asus board you need to turn the realtek on in the bios, check that first, these things are frustrating sometimes you need to walk away for a few minutes and it clicks, good luck, Gym

Hi sir/mam, i have a gigabyte motherboard 7vm333m-rz n now i m presently in tis board AMD processor is running... can i change the processor by pentium 3 instead of AMD.

-> NO

It has a Socket 462 processor socket. (Also known as Socket A,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_A )

This is strictly for AMD processors ONLY, and only for AMD processors that use this processor socket.

An Intel Pentium III processor, that is not a Slot 1 processor, uses a Socket 370,

List of Intel Pentium III Microprocessors,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_III_microprocessors#.22Coppermine.22_.28180_nm.29

Scroll down also.

{ If it states Slot 1 AND Socket 370, it means there are processors Intel made, that were that model, but could have been a Slot 1 processor, or Socket 370 processor.

Using the first example;
Pentium III 500E,

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/index.html

The first example on top, is an Intel Slot 1 processor style.
The rest of them on down are Socket 370 processors, EXCEPT for the Pentium III Xeon. (Zee-On)
It is a Slot 1 processor.

Greetings.I have GA-K8NE motherboard. My question is which is the best processor i can upgrade? My current processor is AMD semprom 2600+.thank you!

Hi!

The best processor you can use with your GA-K8NE ( socket 754) is the AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Newcastle. It has 1MB of L2 cache, system bus of 1600 MT/s.

This processor is supported on both revisions of the motherboard (rev.1.x and rev 2.x)

Bogdan

Motherboard 8kra2+

This motherboard uses a style called Socket A. Socket A has 453 pins, so yes it will work with the processor you are wanting to use with this motherboard. Also, this is an AMD board, so getting an Intel CPU won't work, must get a AMD processor with this machine. Hope this helps!

A7V266E/AA MB CPU

The Ol' Asus A7V266-E?
1.The fastest Front Side Bus setting is 266MHz
2.Uses Socket 462 AMD processors
3.Uses Athlon, Athlon XP, and Duron AMD processors.

I would stick with an AMD Athlon XP. Fastest one? Hmmm, I believe that would be the AMD Athlon XP 2600+
The one that operates at 2133MHz with a FSB of 266MHz. Part number AXDA2600DKV3C

Here is the Motherboard Manual for your Asus A7V266-E, (It's a PDF file download. Let it download all the way before looking through it)
http://www.motherboards.org/files/manuals/1/a7v266e-100.pdf

If the above direct link does not work for you, then go here,
http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/manuals/ASUS/A7V266-E/ (Click on -> Download <- all the way to the right of -> File:a7v266e-100.pdfVersion:--Release Date:--)

Go to Page 19, Item 2. NO POWER connected to computer, make sure the SYSCLK (System Clock) DIP switches are set to 133MHz.
1, 2, 3, and 4 are set to the OFF position for 133MHz.
All you will see is the ON. The switches go to the opposite side as shown in Item 2.

I'm sure they are set there however, as your 1900+ you have in right now, uses a 266MHz FSB.
I should explain.
AMD processors are Double-Pumped. Therefore the 133MHz setting will become 266MHz for the processor. (Intel processors are Quad-Pumped.

They are both the same Core, (Thoroughbred A/B, Model 8, 130nm), so a BIOS update shouldn't be necessary.
