Please see above post. If this does not work you can call insignia. They also give you the option to have them send you a cd/dvd to update the firmware. If you have it plugged into the internet you can update off the internet.

If all else fails use the forums at to let people know it is not working. Insignia checks them often to try to get info for thier engineers on what needs to change on updates.

Hope I could help!

I need to upgrade my blu ray player - won't play new blu ray discs

If you are using the BRDVD there is only one update and it is a few months old. They are adding new security features to new Bluyray discs this month and all players out there need to be updated. The unfortunate side of the BRDVD is that Insignia is refusing to update the player although Funai(the comany that has made the player for them) has released a update that would work with it with little work by insignia.

To help get this player updated it would be good to go to the forums here and post that you still use this player. We got a update the first time so it should be possible to get another.

Good luck and enjoy this little player.

Will not play new movies. keeps rebooting to previews

There is one new firmware available here:

just download the firmware and follow directions to install it. One problem is that Insignia will not do a new update so any movies coming out with the new security feature on new Blurays will have problems playing.

Visit the insignia forums and post some messages or write a email to help get our players running for at least a little longer.

Thanks and feel free to comment with any questions at all.

After playing a movie we put in another DVD and the player wouldn't load it; it just ejected the DVD after making sounds as though it tried 5 or 6 times. After turning it off for a couple of days and...

Your laser could be dead. What message does it display onscreen when you try? If it is a "disc read" error or something along those lines it means(in most cases) the laser is dead. It would be expensive to fix it and would be better to buy a new player.(insignia has a 1 year warrantee so you may want to check and see if you can get a new player)

Have you updated the firmware on it? If not go to and do so. If you are trying a Blu-ray movies(you said DVD but you never know) it could be that the player needs a update to support your movie.

Also see the forums at to get info on updates and to let insignia know you still want updates to continue using this player. They are not keeping up with the updates as they should so we consumers that got this player can continue using this player. See forums on info.

Insignia blu-ray player only plays music cd'

I would need to know which Insignia Blu Ray player you have to get a better idea of what potential problems you may be experiencing. Model number should be NS-XXXXXXX.

It sounds like the loader is failing, the lens is scratched/dirty, or the firmware isn't performing properly.

Try using a Blu-Ray cleaning kit to clean the lens. Don't use a CD or DVD cleaner kit since these are too harsh for the Blu-Ray lens.

Try updating the firmware to the latest version by going to and searching for your model number. Updates allow for more functionality of your player as well as greater compatibility with Blu-Ray discs and other disc formats.

Hope this helps!

I have a Panasonic Blu Ray player DMP-BD10A and I have had a issue when trying to watch some Blu rays that once you it play on the menu it gets stuck at now reading this has happened on The Happening and...

I just fixed it on mine. You need to update the firmware on your player. To do that just go to the website below and follow the simple instructions. Basically, you download the latest firmware, burn it to a CD, insert it in your Blu-ray and let it update, takes about 12 to 15 minutes. I gotta go now, family is waiting for me to watch Horton hears a Who. Good luck.
Dowload firmware and see instructions here:
