Re: cmos battery

You'll need to gain access to the top of the mainboard, here's a good guide: In case you don't know, the cmos battery is a round, flat silver object, coin-like. Good luck!

I need to rest password in bios

Removing the RTC battery and leaving it uninstalled for 5 or more minutes causes all passwords and CMOS settings to be cleared. BIOS password can be removed by temporarily disconnecting/ removing the RTC/ CMOS (Coin-cell) battery from the motherboard.
Disconnect the coin-cell battery from the system board and it will reset the BIOS to its default setting and the password would be gone.
Please Refer to Page 29, 106 & 79 of the REPAIR MANUAL IBM T40 for Battery removal, keyboard removal and RTC battery removal instructions.
The Backup Battery (RTC, CMOS) is located under the keyboard. So you have to remove the keyboard to access the battery. The above Manual from IBM shows the exact method/ instructions and pictures for laptop dis-assembly for the purpose.
If you are comfortable with working inside such electronics, you can't do it yourself, or else you may seek help from local laptop service professional.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

CMOS or RTC battery for this laptop : can it be replaced

Hi AshishB, Yes, Toshiba does refer to the CMOS battery in their literature as the real time clock battery. Your retailer is half right, the battery is on the motherboard but its attached via a connector and it can be replaced. Here are links to a couple of venders that sell the RTC battery for your laptop: - Http://,Satellite,L15-S104,Laptop,Batteries-Backup-RTC.aspx - Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate the posting.
