The PS50700 uses the PTK195 chassis. This is a very good and reliable chassis. The only thing that I see them needing repair for are shorted high voltage flyback transformers. They are easily replaced, but the life of the set depends on the picture tubes. I would say you will get at least 15 years of good use out of that set.

Television began making a loud audio noise and the picture went purple

Does your TV make a "whining, whirling, clicking, or humming noise?" If the TV have the infamous blinking lights problem , it's most likely a problem with your color wheel. The Samsung BP96-00674A color wheels spin anywhere from 6,000 to 15,000 revolutions per minute (RPM’s)--It is one of the few consumable parts in your Samsung TV. The average life expectancy from our data logging shows the Samsung color wheels are fairly reliable with a MEAN average of 5-8 years. Its basically in charge of creating the colors .God bless you here;s how to take it out and replace it:

Sony full definition lcd model 1080

Yes you have a bad lamp. Unfortunately, I have noted that many dealers either "forget" to tell the customer that the lamp will require replacement, or they overstate the expected life of the lamp. The usual life of a lamp, as stated by Sony is 4000 to 8000 hours. There are 3 factors that effect lamp life:
1) the number of times the TV is turned on and off. Every turn on works the lamp very hard, so to make the lamp last longer, limit the number of turn on/turn off cycles. My rule of thumb is this: If you will be back to the TV within 30 minutes, leave it on.
2) Proper ventilation. In general the TV should have at least 6 inches of space on all sides to properly cool.
3) Power loss. If you have frequent power outages, buy a small UPS for the TV. The TV requires a "cool-down" cycle where the fans run to properly cool the set. If the cooling cycle is interrupted, it can effect lamp life.

Replace the lamp with and original Sony lamp and vacuum any openings you can see that are dusty and you should be good to go. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

If you have no electronic experience and do not know how to troubleshoot electronics, then yes pleaqse call in a pro to assist you with this repair.. It hard to tell whats wrong with a set that is in a dead condition. It could run you anywhere from 50 bucks all the way up to 1200 depending on if a main board has to be replaced. Good Luck
