Re: Laptop freezes up
Try re installing both, while in safe mode go to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager and go down the list to keyboard, click '+' and right click on keyboard and select uninstall.
Re start laptop and see if it works ok.
Do the same for the mouse, but look for the line mouse and other pointing devices and uninstal and restart.
try also updating the drivers.

There are a multitude of reasons why a cursor may be frozen. If you start your laptop in safe mode does it still freeze?
Repeatedly press F8 while your laptop turns on to get into safe mode.
You may have a lot of programs loading in the background that could cause your computer to freeze
Does the keyboard freeze at the same time?
create new user inj safe mode with networking take backup of your data which is in old user. to take back up got to c:\user\ ( YOUR USER NAME ). try to login with new user. still if you face same problem go with system restore.
Try booting your system from a LIVE cd like linux, a verson of Hiren's tools, or the UBCD (ultimate boot disc for windows). If your keyboard still freezes with the alternate OS, you may have a hardware malfunction.
try to boot in safe mode and check if still freezes. if yes then. boot to f8 select last known good configuration. if fails.try to do system restore using the recovery disc. if fails then before reinstalling OS. try to connect an external mouse first then update antivirus then run a full system scan. if still fails then reinstall. OS.
Try starting the computer in safe mode by pressing the F8 key repeatedly on boot. The start up menu will appear. Chosse safe mode and run an antivirus and antispyware program in safe mode. Your system is freezing and that is why your keyboard is not working. You should find that the keyboard and mouse will work properly while you are in safe mode. I suspect that something is stealing your available resources when you start in regular mode.
Well start a bit slower then. go into the bios at startup F2, and navigate around does it freeze there. if no then start windows in safe mode F8 when windows logo shows. freezing ? If its not freezing then turn off the startup programs. Start/run/msconfig and then uncheck load startup items and start normally, click the dont show me this again /ok any freezing. If its freezing you may have a hardware issue. if you have 2 sticks of memory remove on and or /reseat them boot the dell diagnostics cd and check the cpu and memory. report back
