Dear ssalgado: Thank you for your kind assistance with this problem. I was able to access the backup files by following the directions that you provided. However, when I attempt to open this file, it appears to consist of programming code that is not recognizable to me. Any suggestions that you have regarding how to make this file decipherable would be most appreciated.

Thanks again. Best wishes for a happy new year.

You have to find the folder where Outlook save it's files and back it up.
Outlook files have a "pst" extension, so look in your hard disk for *.pst files to find them.

This is from a Microsoft site:
To find your .pst files on your hard disk

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type *.pst.
  3. In the Look in box, select the appropriate drive.
  4. Click Find Now.

    Dear Ron,
the pst files aren't ment to be open as you did. They're only read by Outlook who shows you your mails.
If you only want a backup, just copy the pst file to a safe place.
But if you wan't to read what's inside the pst, you'll need Outlook or some other tool.
    Regards, Sebastián

Lost Outlook.pst files

If you happened to backup your pst files, you can restore them. Here is a knowledge base article from Microsoft on the subject:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070

If you do not have a backup copy, you could try doing a system restore to a time before they were lost. System restore must be enabled on your computer to do this. Make sure to save and/or backup anything recent before doing this. To do a system restore in XP, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Then select a date that is available for restore and roll back to then.

I have a Vista Home version without Outlook. How can I update / backup my Windows Mobile phone's contacts? ...And Calendar?

Most phones that sync with outlook come with a version of outlook. Try looking in the box with your phone for a cd that contains outlook and install it. You may also need to download the "Sync Center" software from Microsoft. I have this installed on my Vista Home Premium client and it seems to work ok. Consult both your manufacturer's website and Microsoft's website. Hope this helps.
