Question about Dewalt DC988kar XRP 3 - speed 1/2" 18v cordless hammerdrill/drill/driver kit

New cordless drill won't run with charged batteries

Xmas gift. Charged both batteries but neither will turn the drill in either direction. Torque settings, speed settings don't matter. Is there an internal fuse, or contact coating that might be interrupting power??

Does the drill do anything? Check in the cavity where the battery goes and make sure there is nothing there to prevent the battery contacts from connecting with switch. I take it the charger indicates the batterys are fully charged. If you cant see anything obvious I would take it back and get a replacement.

18 volt cordless Dewalt drill does not have any torque I can stop it with my hand quite easily any suggestions

If it's fully charged and still has no torque, either replace the battery or, if you're a DIY type, disassemble the battery and check each cell under load to replace just the weak cells.

My Black and Decker Drill and Hand Saw have brand new battery pack and brand new charger to BE SURE battery is fully charged but still don't work

it is probably the brushes on the motors are wore out or stuck and not making contact. pretty much junk unless you feel confident enough to attempt repair.

Black and decker drill runs slow

Its much more likely that your batteries are not charging up properly. Ni-CD batteries suffer from 'memory effect' and can appear fully charged when only 70% charged. Also they lose charge when being stored. Do not short them out to discharge them! Wait until the drill complains that they are flat and then recharge them rather than when they first start to slow down. Do not let become completely flat (less than 1 volt).

Black & Decker Cordless Drill will not charge battery

Either the charging adapter is faulty or the battery is worn out.

If the recharageable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Will 18 volt black & decker charger over charge battery

Hello Howard, There are two different kind of cordless drill chargers. One is a smart charger that will not overcharge your battery. It usually has a stand alone base that the battery plugs into and sometimes may have a red and/or a green light to let you know it is charged. This charger will stop charging when the battery is fully charged after an hour or less. The other one is a dumb charger that can overcharge your battery if left on the charger too long. This charger usually has a square or rectangular transformer that plugs directly into your wall receptacle. This charger may take up to eight hours to fully charge your battery and will continue to charge until you unplug it.

Brand new hitachi 18v, one battery charged fine the second is completely dead it was in the drill from the factory and the charger won't recognize it when attached.

I have just had a similar issue I left the drill unused for a period and when i placed it in the charger the charger showed the battery as charged after about 15 secondseconds.

Following a internet search i found a site that suggested for a imlar problem with a camera jump starting the low battery with a 9 v battery. I had a spare from the drill which was fully charged so placed a contact from + to + and - to - and held for about 2 mins. I then placed the battery back in the charger and it started charging. Running the battery down as we speak to recharge again well worth a try. If you dont have a spare maybe the 9 v would work

My dewalt 18v xrp battery wont take a charge

Depending on how old or more to the point how many times you have already charged the battery, it may be worn out. All rechargeable batteries do reach a point where they won't charge up anymore. If you have fully discharged the battery and tried to fully charge it up again and it won't take a charge or only lasts a few minutes on a charge it may be time to recycle it and buy a new one.

Was given a drill as a gift about 3yrs ago, tryed it for the first time recently. problem the charger doesn't charge the battery, had the charger checked and it is only putting out about 4b volts. How can...

After 3 years you probably can't get any kind of warranty support but you may be able to repair the charger or buy a universal one. www.centurytool.net sells parts for battery chargers....if you know where the drill was purchased, like sears, you may be able to take it there and they can either send it in for repairs or point you in the right directions. Most cordless drill batteries will go bad if they are not charged regularly so you may have to replace them also. Good luck!
