you need change a lcd screen,some lcd screen is easy to broken or black. it affects the function and beatuty of the picture.

Flickering screen


Purple streaks, lines and casts across the recorded images are some of the first stages of CCD failure. A blank image will occur when the CCD completely fails. A blank image however is not to be confused with a blank LCD (998bills) where images are recorded OK but nothing is visible on the back, that fault requires the LCD to be replaced by a service centre. As for CCD's, this is a known fault and will most likely be repaired at no charge by Canon if taken directly to them. Turn on camera but the lcd sceen is black


Have you checked the display mode you're in? If you have the display set to off (to save power) and also the picture review time set to off, then you'll just see a black screen. Try pressing the 'Disp.' button below the screen when the camera is on - it should cycle through different settings with each press: Off, On, On with picture info. Similarly, in the playback mode this will show you more or less info about the picture you are viewing.

Even if the display is switched off, if you have your 'review' option in the menu set to anything other than Off (i.e. 2 seconds), then you should see the picture you've taken appear on the screen straight after taking it.

If it's not that, then I don't know the answer....

Flickering lines and the color is off


I found the same problem recently, but it is intemittent. It then changed from flickering lines to more of a blurred picture on the LED screen. I have tried all things to clear it, but the best seems to be to turn it off for a while and it often clears. Previously captured pictures review fine on the LED screen, but when the screen blurs (with a blurry motion too!) that is how the picture records and reviews. I bought my Ixus 400 in Sep 03 and this problem started in Jun 07.
