Question about Samsung DLP HL-P5663W 56" TV

1 Answer

My TV powers off by itself for no reason.

I have the remote in a drawer and the TV will just power down at least twice per day. This symptom just started and has been going on for about a week.

If you have read any of the previous post about this....sounds like a overheating issue. This happens quite often with overhead projectors also. Keep in mind that this is only guidance but it might be a good idea to open up the unit and get rid of dust. Dust becomes an insulator on all electronics (power supplies, electronics, lamps) or use some of the other quick fixes mentioned in the other post like add cooling externally. Hope this helps.

Tv turns on by itself

Pull batteries out of the remote control and keep it that way, just to see if maybe power button on remote control is being pressed/faulty. Also check the auto turn-on option of your TV, it might be set to a specific time to power on/off. This would be noticable if TV is powering on at specific time of day.

I think your TV was set to turn off by itself automatically. Try to reread the manual about it.

I have dish network and I am unabe to get the dish network remote to control the tv power and volume. Whenever dish gives me a code it works for a few days then the tv rejects it. I have a 27 in orion...

1.) Hold down the clear "TV" button on the remote for four seconds, then press 500 pound ( #)
2.) Hold down the clear "TV" button on the remote for four seconds, press the big power button once.
3.) Press the channel up button once per second until the TV turns off then press pound (#).

If this doesn't work and you have an LCD TV turn off the back light. As it is probably causing interference this is found in the TV menus.

I have the radion shack hdtv remote. Cat no

Download the manual and codes from here

http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/files/dl.cgi?file=others/radio_shack/15135-manual.zip&area=other

Here is how to set the code...

1. Turn TV on
2. Press TV button on remote
3. Hold P button on remote until LED blinks twice
4. Enter the first 5 digit code for Magnavox TV's
5. Press Power button - TV should turn off. If TV doesn't turn off repeat steps 2-5 with the next 5 digit code, until either TV goes off or run out of codes.
6. If out of codes use searching for code method below...

TV codes for Magnavox

10047, 11454, 10054, 10154, 10000, 10250, 10051, 10180, 10060, 10030, 10171, 10092, 10706, 11913, 11904, 11755, 10019, 11365, 11254, 10802, 10386, 10282, 10020, 10187, 10186, 10024, 10179, 10096

Searching for code

1. Turn on TV.
2. Press TV button on remote
3. Press and hold P button until LED blinks twice
4. Enter code 991 on remote - LED blinks twice
5. Press 1 - Device key blinks twice
6. Press Power button once
7. Press and release CH+ key until TV turns off.

At this point in the manual, the manual is only correct depending on what type of TV you have.

In the manual if you press the Power on button the TV should turn itself back on, the fail to state that not all TV's turn on by the power button, the majority now are triggered to turn on, on channel change, however you can't use channel change here to check it as you'll go to the next code... here is my solution...

8. Turn TV back on either using original TV remote, or buttons on front (most TV's if you change channels they come back out of standby mode, very few now turn on by pressing the power button).

9. Press Power button on remote - TV should turn itself off again.
10. Press P button on remote to lock in that code.

If the device does not turn off press CH- to go back through the codes, press and release P button when TV turns off.

Finding code

If you used the search function you might want to know what code it's using. To do this follow these instructions...

1. Press TV button
2. Press and hold P until LED blinks twice
3. Enter 990 and LED blinks twice
4. Press 1 and count number of times LED blinks this is the first digit of your code (e.g. 1 blink = 1, 2 blinks = 2, etc).
5. Repeat step 4 pressing buttons 2 - 5 for the other digits (e.g. for the second digit press 2 count number of blinks.. etc)

At this point the manual doesn't tell you how to get out of this mode, I presume pressing any other button on the remote other than 1-5 will take you out of this mode, either that or leaving the remote alone for 5 minutes.

Tv turn on all by itself. I will turn it off and it will turn back on in 3-10 minutes. I tried taking batteries out of the remote to see if it was causing it , but it still turned on by itself

Man I wish my wife had that symptom :-)

Power surges may cause that. If you have a surge isolator try connecting the TV through it to see what happens; it is best to try a UPS if by chance you have one.

In a nutshell it boils down to either power board or main board logic board. There's no easy way to tell.

Actually there's one more, albiet low possiblity - the buttons board may be playing tricks and changing resistance, usually based on temperature, but also possibly for no apparent reason at all. Chances for this increase if the TV has touch controls and not regular buttons.

Last but not least someone could be playing tricks on you :-)

Tv shutting off

How many times per second does the POWER led blink? (dont worry about the OPC).

1x per second (constant, steady blink) = bad inverter/lamps
2x per second = bad power supply
3x per second = bad main board

You can buy the parts online and fix if yourself!!

TV won't power on

I am from Australia and this TV is a dud. We purchased it 12 months ago and it has been to repair twice. It is doing the same as the above message. Prior to this the screen would half, horizontally, go black or white with coloured vertical lines. Never buy another of these.
