When taking pictures, the flash does not work. I have checked the flash setting and it doesn't matter when it is set for on, off, or auto, it still does not work. Everything else appears to be fine, but I can't take some pictures without the flash working. I replaced the batteries, but nothing changed. The camera was just purchased in July, 2008.

If the Forced flash setting is already enabled and the flash is still not working, then the issue may be due to another camera setting. Even if the Forced flash setting is enabled, the flash will still not work in the following circumstances:
When shooting MPEG movies.
When shooting in the Twilight or Handheld Twilight mode.
If shooting with the Burst or Multi Burst mode.
Shooting with Sweep Panorama.
Shooting with the Fireworks or High Sensitivity mode.
If an external flash is connected.
Please make sure that the Camera is not set to any of these modes. You can check the manual to get the information to change the setting..
If the issue persists, please reset the Camera and make sure that battery is fully charged. You can use the initialize option on the Menu to reset the Camera. If the issue persists after performing all the above mentioned troubleshooting steps, service is required. Please let me know if you require any further assistance. Thanks for understanding.

I had the same problem with my flash not working on any setting, but I found a way to fix it: hit the menu button, make sure the "rec mode" choice is set to normal instead of burst. I think the burst mode takes multiple shots in a row, so the flash isn't compatible with that setting?
