Why do these ads keeping popping up?

You can reduce (or eliminate) the occurrence of pop-up ads by setting an Option in your browser that "Blocks Pop-Up" ...
If you're using IE Explorer, click on "Tools" (top right corner of screen - tool bar), put your cursor on "Pop-Up Blocker" (in the drop down window) and click on "Pop-Up Blocker Setting". Then, at the bottom of the window, set the "Blocking Level" at HIGH - which blocks all pop-up from showing up on your screen.

You can do it for other browsers as well ... e.g. Mozilla Firefox ...
click on Open Menu (the 3 horizontal bar on top right corner), select Options (in the drop down window), select the "Content" tab ... and check of the box (on the top) that says Block Pop-Up's, and then close.

Often pop-up's show up because your activity (viewing, searching, etc.) on the browser is tracked. Yes you can turn off tracking too !
This tracking info is used by "ads spawning" processes/apps to select which ads is displayed on your computer. So, you can reduce the amount of ad's by deleting cookies (particularly for these ads programs) every time you're done and close your browser ... just like you remove your (browsing) history, temporary files, cache information, etc.

If your Windows XP or Vista is getting slow, a wise thing to do is to defragment your hard drives!defragment

There are many programs but one of the best is Auslogics Disk defragmenter. Just download the defragmenter, install it and run defragment. It should take approximately 1 hour and it says how much faster your computer went (for example 30%).
When the program has completed defragmenting you should immediately feel the difference (if the percent was over 30). Your computer should now be much faster than it used to be. Programs start …

By following a few simple guidelines, you can maintain your computerand keep it running smoothly. This article discusses how to use thetools available in Windows 7, Vista, and XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) tomore efficiently maintain your computer and safeguard your privacy whenyou're online.

1. Free up disk spaceThe Disk Cleanup tool helps you freeup space on your hard disk to improve the performance of your computer. The tool identifies files that you can safely delete, and then enablesyou to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identifiedfiles.
Use Disk Cleanup to:
  • Remove temporary Internet files.
  • Remove downloaded program files (such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets).
  • Empty the Recycle Bin.
  • Remove Windows temporary files such as error reports.
  • Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.
  • Remove installed programs that you no longer use.
  • Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.
Tip:Typically, temporary Internet files take the most amount of spacebecause the browser caches each page you visit for faster access later.

2. Speed up access to dataDisk fragmentation slows theoverall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, thecomputer must search the hard disk when the file is opened to piece itback together. The response time can be significantly longer.
DiskDefragmenter is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented filesand folders on your computer's hard disk so that each occupies a singlespace on the disk. With your files stored neatly end-to-end, withoutfragmentation, reading and writing to the disk speeds up.
When to run Disk Defragmenter
In addition to running Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals—monthlyis optimal—there are other times you should run it too, such as when:
  • You add a large number of files.
  • Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less.
  • You install new programs or a new version of Windows.

3. Detect and repair disk errorsIn addition to running DiskCleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of yourcomputer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your harddisk by running the Error Checking utility.
As you use your harddrive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard diskperformance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving)difficult, or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans thehard drive for bad sectors, and scans for file system errors to seewhether certain files or folders are misplaced.
If you use your computer daily, you should run this utility once a week to help prevent data loss.
Run the Error Checking utility:
  1. Close all open files.
  2. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
  3. In the My Computer window, right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
  5. Click the Check Now button.
  6. In the Check Disk dialog box (called Error-checking in Windows 7), select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start
  7. If bad sectors are found, choose to fix them.
Tip: Only select the "Automatically fix file system errors" check box if you think that your disk contains bad sectors.

4. Protect your computer against spywareSpywarecollects personal information without letting you know and withoutasking for permission. From the Web sites you visit to usernames andpasswords, spyware can put you and your confidential information atrisk. In addition to privacy concerns, spyware can hamper yourcomputer's performance. To combat spyware, you might want to considerusing Microsoft Windows Defender, which is included in Windows 7 and Windows Vista, and is available as a free download for Microsoft XP SP2. Alternatively, there are other free anti-spyware software programs available.

5. Learn all about ReadyBoostIf you're using Windows 7 orWindows Vista, you can use ReadyBoost to speed up your system. A newconcept in adding memory to a system, it allows you to use non-volatileflash memory—like a USB flash drive or a memory card—to improveperformance without having to add additional memory.

I have windows vista home premium and as it loads I keep getting a box up saying C:\PROGRA ~ 1\Google\GOOGLE ~3\GOEC62 ~ 1.DLL is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. try...

This is probably the google toolbar for your web browser.

Re-install google toolbar (you can do this here).

Once it is installed, you can either leave it, or uninstall it again fully, from Add/Remove programs in you control panel. (or Programs and Features in the control panel if you are using Windows 7)

Double underscore pop-up links are annoying

Sites are now loading their text with double underscored pop-up links that open up ads. They are very annoying. This site uses such tactics. Even though it's own terms of use prohibit you the user from uploading ads, user responses are full of these links making it like trying to negotiate a mine field with your mouse to avoid opening these annoying pop-ups.

If you use Mozilla Firefox as your browser, you can download a free add-on called AdBlock at addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10 which will give you the options to add filters such as *vibrantmedia.com* the advertising annoyance on this site.
