That would most likely be a shorted high voltage capacitor but it may be a shorted high voltage transformer, or possibly a magnetron whose filament is shorted to the case.

Some Samsung / GE's normally have a delay of about 2 seconds from the time you press Start to the time the high voltage section gets powered up.

It happens in about 2-3 seconds after Start, I would suspect the capacitor.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

I had the same problem and got tired of resetting the breaker. It was the processor board, about $100 bucks. Works like a charm now. It's a pain to get to and is attached to another main circuit board inside the right front panel..

What is the internal resistance of WB27x10194

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

Line Fuse

Every microwave oven has a line fuse. This fuse is designed to blow if too much current is drawn through the microwave circuitry. The fuse can be replaced, but the underlying issue should still be investigated and resolved. Otherwise the new fuse will blow also.
Main Control Board

If the microwave is not working the main control board may be defective. This is not common. When a microwave stops working the problem is usually the line fuse or within the high voltage circuit; either the high voltage capacitor, diode, transformer or magnetron.

Thermal Fuse

If the microwave is not working the thermal fuse may have blown. It can be tested for continuity. Watch our fuse testing video for more information.
Thermoprotector

If the microwave is not working the thermoprotector may have tripped. This is a safety device to prevent the microwave from overheating. It can be tested for continuity to see if it's blown.2_7_2013_10_19_58_pm.gif

I have a ge spacemaker over the range microwave oven model number jvm1631bj02 and it blows fuse after fuse and seems to blow right before the fan would engage within the first couple of seconds

Sounds like you have a shorted fan motor. Disconnect the power going to the fan and then try turning the microwave on again. Do not run the microwave for more than 5 or 6 seconds without the fan operating. If this does not cure your problem then the next most likely problem is either the AC Capacitor (silver can), or the Magnatron (4 inch square silver unit with cooling fins and thick wires. The voltage present on these two units can hold a charge in excess of 5000 volts, even after a time it is unpluged. Don't go near these unless you know what you are doing.

Best of luck.

If it blows the line fuse instantly when you push start.... it is either a shorted HV capacitor or shorted monitor switch.... most likely.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

GE / Hotpoint models usually have about a 2-second delay between the time you hit Start and the time the high voltage section turns on.

Microwave keeps blowing fuse

If it blows the fuse as soon as you hit the START button, it's almost certainly a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it blows a few seconds after you hit the START button, it's probably the high-voltage transformer. You'll possibly also smell a faint electrical burning smell from the rear vent after you shut if off.

If it blows the fuse as soon as it's plugged in, you probably have a shorted door switch, a shorted varistor, or an internally exposed wire shorting to the chassis, etc.
