Lower baking element has a hole in it

While cooking in our electric oven the lower baking element appeared to explode.why would that happen

They get weak in some spots and do that,all you do is remove the 2 screws on the back of element pull out remove both wire jack and install new one,you can get one at sears .com,click on parts put in your model number and get your part-mike

You're actually referring to the "broiler" elements. Most electric ovens have these at the top of the main oven space. (Some gas ovens are set up the same way, but many put the broiler elements in a bottom drawer.)

As their name implies, broiler elements are active only when you're broiling. They will not go on for baking.

Broiling is the process of cooking food by exposing it directly to a high heat source at close range. To broil a steak, for example, you would place the pan holding the steak on an oven rack raised to the top or next to top position in the oven (consult the manual) and set the oven to broil. The top elements will then turn on and cook the meat by direct radiation.

Most people, however, use ovens for baking far more often than for broiling. Baking is the process of cooking food (cakes, casseroles, roasts etc) by indirect heat. In other words you raise the oven to a certain temperature, put the food on a rack more in the middle of the oven, and let the surrounding heat cook it over time. When you bake the top broiler elements usually don't come on at all.

Kenmore electric oven will not bake


The bake element
is the heating element that is found at the bottom of the oven. Most electric ovens use both the bake element and the broil element in a bake cycle, with the bake element performing 90% of the heating. If the bake element isn't working, the oven may not heat. To help determine if the bake element is defective you should first do a visual check. If the element is blistered or separated then it should be replaced. If the element appears to look normal, then turn the oven on to a bake function for a minute and then turn it off.

Check the element for signs of heating and if it is still cold then it may be defective. Disconnect the power and then remove the back panel. First check the wires as they may have become loose or corroded. If the element appears to be fine visually, test it for continuity with a multi-meter. If the element is burned or no longer has continuity, it will need to be replaced.

Hello -

If you are referring to the bake element, but the broil element works then you would need to just replace the bake element. If both your bake and broil element does not work, then there might be a problem with the wiring communication. However, if the oven does not bake and/or broil but the cook top works, contact a professional to have the EOC (electronic oven control) diagnosed.

How do I replace my oven element


Hello.


Theoven is a particularly sturdy piece of kitchen equipment. It can handle dailyuse and still perform as needed. But of course, as with everything over time,the oven can eventually have some things go wrong with it. The first signs maybe subtle, like your cake not being cooked through, or you may notice the oventaking much longer than usual to come to temperature. When looking inside theoven as it is heating, you may notice tiny sparks along the bake element. Anyof these symptoms may mean it's time to replace the bake element.Instructionsand tools below Screwdriver, Newbake element, Electrical tape, Fiberglass tape, Flashlight1 The first step when it comes to working on yourelectric oven is to turn the breaker off at your home's service panel, orbreaker box. This is extremely important, because most electric ovens require220-volt electricity to operate, and that voltage won't only hit you hard, itcan kill you. Place a sign on your breaker panel stating that you are workingon the electrical. As an added precaution, unplug the oven from the walloutlet. Remove the drawer below the oven chamber to see if the plug isaccessible from there. Otherwise, you may have to pull out the oven a bit tounplug it.2 Be sure that the oven has not been used in a whileand that the elements are completely cool. Remove all of the racks from insidethe oven. If it makes it more comfortable, you can even remove the oven door byopening it and sliding it off of the "arms" that hold it in place.3 Locate the bake element. It resembles a metal tubethat's been bent into a square shape and it is located on the bottom of theoven's interior. It can be quite dark inside the oven, so grab your flashlightand shine it to the rear of the oven's interior to locate where the bakeelement is connected to the oven wall.4 There will be two screws holding the bake element inplace. Remove the two screws and place them somewhere where you will not losethem. Now, pull the bake element out of the oven wall. There will be wiresattached to each "leg" of the bake element. Note: There is usuallynot much wire to work with, so do not pull too hard. Once you have about 4 or 5inches of wire exposed, place a piece of black electrical tape over the wire atthe point where it enters the oven. This will help keep the wire from fallingback inside the hole.5 At the point where the wires are connected to thebake element, you should see a screw. Remove the screws and separate the wiresfrom the bake element. Keep the old element for reference when shopping for anew element that matches the old one exactly.6 Install the new element by connecting one wire toeach leg of the element with the screws, just as they were with the oldelement. Wrap a layer of white fiberglass tape around the terminals. Push thewires back through the holes in the rear of the oven until the bake element isback in position. Use the screws to secure the new element to the oven wall, asbefore.7 Replace the oven door if you removed itearlier. Plug in the oven, then turn the breaker back on. Turn on the oven andtest the new element. You may notice some smoke coming off of the element as itheats up for the first time. This is ok, as these are just oils burning off ofit. The smoke will stop in a few seconds.Thanks.

Have just moved from UK and we don't have broil and bake on our ovens - what do they mean/what's the difference as I've been cooking garlic bread on bake but it's taking twice as long to cook?

The broil is the top element and the bake is the bottom element...so with broil you are heating from the top and with bake you are heating from the bottom...if your oven has a fan, turn that on with a bake setting and it will speed up the process..

The heating element becomes red hot,but the food doesn't appear to cook in an appropriate time os fashion. Any answers or suggestions


The top of whatever food you're cooking should be in the center of the oven for the most effective cooking. Do you have the oven set on bake or broil? Broil is a direct heat method and if the food is on the lower shelf and the oven is set on broil, the food is not getting enough heat to cook it properly. Baking heats the lower element and the heat rises to surround the food. Broiling heats the top element and since heat rises, it is not getting down to the food to surround it and cook it.

Schematics for whirlpool RB260PXB we got a F-3 on the display, what to do what to look for, where is teh schematic, not in the Use and Care Booklet, or in the actual oven


I have a Whirlpool 30" oven. I've noticed that it seems to be taaking longer to cook the food, so I purchased a cooking thermometer. It appears that the temperature reading on the oven display is lower than the internal readin gon the purchased oven thermometer (275 vs setting of 350). Is this most likely a bad heat sensor or could it be the bake element?

When the food you're baking is done on top but not on the bottom--or when baking just takes far too long to finish--the bake element may be burned out.

You may get fooled into thinking it's working, because the oven is hot inside. But many electric ovens use the broil element, too, during the preheat and bake cycles. So the food may be getting heated only by the broil element, which causes poor baking results.

If the bake element is burned out, replacing it should solve the problem. Otherwise, you need to further troubleshoot the oven's electrical system to locate the defective wire or component.

Concealed oven


consealed bake means that the bake element on the bottom had a metal plate above it to make it easier to clean and to allow you to use the lower racks without burning the bottom of your food. To use, you want to make sure that the oven temperature that you set has been reached before putting in your food to be cooked. You also should put the racks one notch lower than you normally would. If you do this, you should have no problems with your food cooking unevenly.
