Upgrading from OS Windows XP:

you can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista(ultimate, premium, home, business.......),
you have to buy a Windows Vista CD and install a fresh copy or format.

Some Minimum Requirements:

i) Min 2GB RAM or atleast 1GB RAM(if you have>1GB RAM installation of Windows Vista will not continue)

II) External Graphic Card. for some versions of Windows Vista(to run Aero Interface, special feature only   in some versions of Windows Vista)

NOTE:

"Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" is a software from Microsoft which you can download from internet, this  can help you determine which features and edition of Windows Vista will run on your computer.

i.e., when u load this software on windows xp it will suggest which upgrade version of windows vista          will suit your system(based on you system configuration. or hardware components.) and then            you can install the upgraded version of windows xp(mostly windows vista home,.........)

Thanking You

Upgrading to Windows 7?

Many people are hurrying to upgrade their Windows XP or Vista computers to Windows 7.

My advice is simple. Do a little bit of research first to make sure your computer and other peripheral equipment, especially printers, have drivers available for the new operating system. There is no greater frustration when you think that you are making an improvement and your sound or your printer doesn't work after the upgrade.

Nearly all computer manufacturers have support sites where you can check to see if the drivers are indeed available. For example: If you have an HP or Compaq go to HP Support and enter your model number and follow the links to Software & Driver Downloads. Click on Windows 7 when you get the OS choices and it will let you know if drivers for that equipment are available.

I would also suggest that when you find the drivers for your computer and equipment, that you go ahead and download them to your computer and burn them all onto a CD/DVD so that when you do upgrade they will be right there at your fingertips and the process will go smoothly.

Happy Upgrading!

Can i use an external hard drive to run an operating system (XP)

Yes. You can run an OS from an external hard drive. You have to install the OS to the External hard drive and will have to boot from the USB. I have tried that for Fedora Linux OS but not for XP. Basically all Operating systems boots up in the same manner. So definitely, its possible with windows XP also.

Well. On xp when I had this prob it had something to do with the OS not working. And in the end I had to reinstall it. You may just want to put the OS cd back in and do a repair. I dont know if you can do a repair with W7 but if you can I would do this

We purchased 3 units with windows 95. can we upgrade, to xp or 2000 and load pos software?

Hello,

Basically the answer is no. The Javelin LC's come with 32MB of memory...the required amount of memory for XP and 2000 Pro are double that. 64 MB of memory total needed.

So without upgrading this PC which might not even be possible then you will have to use Windows 95.

Post back if you have any question's or comments. Thank you for choosing Fixya!

I386 language file is missing

What version of Windows are you running, and what service pack? If it's XP, try upgrading to XP SP3. Less than XP, try this: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/downloads/recommended/ime/install.mspx

Language packs are found on the OS CD, but since you don't have that you can try searching Microsoft Downloads for MUIs.

Hard Drive

Yes this hard drive should work with your system. all you should take into consideration is whether the inputs and such are the same and if all the other components in your system will support the newly added part.

My computer

yes you can fix this by upgrading or replacing your current operating system, you can also repair this by using your winxp cd but when you think your pc have slowed down its better if you will reformat this to speed up your access to windows. there are some softwares in the market that repairs, remove your registry which speed up your system.
hoping this will help you
