How to connect to internet in redhat enterprise linux manually

1) Open a command prompt (or terminal, under System Tools)
2) Verify your system default route (route -n)
a) Does route 0.0.0.0/0 exist?
1) Does it have a gateway IP address similar to that of your cable company? If so, try 'ping 8.8.8.8'
2) Is the gateway IP address similar to 192.168.x.x? If so, you have a local router. Verify that you can 'ping 8.8.8.8'. If not, try to ping your router IP address.
3) If still unsuccessful, verify your IP address.

How to install linux operating system

Hello
A free software operating system based on Linux was created and it was named Ubuntu. It offers all services needed by ISPs, mail servers, DNS servers, FTP servers, MySQL servers, POP3/POP3s/IMAP/IMAPs, Quota, and Firewalls. Red hat, Apache and Ubuntu are Linux software distributors. Ubuntu is widely used because it is free and you don't have to pay any licensing fee. Updates are also available for free and accessible online.
To install Ubuntu Linux software you can use the program "Wubi."
The first thing to do is to download Wubi to your desktop and then run the executable program. Then choose the drive in your computer where you want your installation to go. Wubi will place a file on your local drive. It will use this drive as a virtual hard drive. Most often the C drive is used for this purpose. Choose a bigger installation size to allow installation of other programs and storage of data. Choose your language. Type in your username and then your password for security reasons and for your installation to proceed. You will use this for logging on to your computer, installing programs and making changes to the system. Once you click "Install" Wubi will start to download the installation files. When the installation files have completely been downloaded, you have to reboot. Restart your computer. You'll see on your screen a prompt that asks you to select the operating system that you like-whether you like to boot Ubuntu or Windows. Choose Ubuntu. This will complete the installation of your Ubuntu Linux OS. Another way of installing the Ubuntu Linux software is by using:
An Ubuntu CD installer An Internet connection Everything you need to install Linux comes in one CD that provides a complete working environment. You can get the additional software you will need online for your installation. The available graphical installer makes installation easy and quick. Your computer will have Internet, drawing and graphics applications, and games after Linux has been installed.
Now your computer is ready to work to the max. You'll have it functioning the way you want it and enjoy its features as well. Working on a computer is as much fun as it is functional. You can now browse for information you need, play a variety of games and even listen to your favorite music and watch some videos.
Hope this helps, if so do rate the solution

Linux 5 is not detecting my broadband modem

The connecting to internet is very easy in linux .

There are many steps but i am saying simple one

Initially configure the adsl router with ppoe over ethernet and enable dhcp address option.

Next plug the ethernet cable from router to the inteface of lan card.

Boot the redhat machine.

In the system-->Administration-->network options check whether lan card is detected and active .

If the lan card is not active activate and save

In lan card select option assign assig ip automatically

check whether ip is assigned by using command ifconfig .

Low bandwidth in linux

Bandwidth is related to several factors:
- dedicated vs shared "on-ramp" (DSL is dedicated, good)
- Ethernet card used in the machine (single vs. dual buffers and piplining vs non) - don't know but it may be the card, more expensive cards are often worth the cost.
- drivers for the cards. If the Linux drivers (older than the Windows versions usually) don't allow for the dual buffers or piplining capability then you won't get the rated speed.

You may also have issues with the wrong drivers for your card. It may work but not work well - timing is everything with drivers.

Your description says that with another machine (a different card and drivers) it almost works. It is NOT the operating system. Typically Linux is faster on most things than Windows. It is NOT the BNSL provider. Has to be the card or its drivers.

Linux operating system show me the low bandwidth

This sounds like your Net cards are limiting your Band or that in your linux boxes you have set a bandwidth limit somewhere.
