SOURCE: NEtgear RP614 cannot connect after a electricity shortage in our home :(

I want to say thank you to Tom Smith. My problem was basically that at some point in the morning (while I was online) the power went out and it even seemed to kill my power surge power bar. This has never happened before even though I've had several losses in power. After messing with cycling, resetting, replugging, I found that my Netgear Router would acknowledge internet connection, power LED on, but the wireless light would not stay lit after the test.

Thank god for google. I found this website and tried this solution and after a little difficulty, it worked.

Please note, that after you hit the reset, you might want to shut everything down, and turn everything on/reconnect per Netgear's advised order (1) cable internet box, wait 2 minutes (2) router, wait 1 minute, and (3) your computer.

After I did this, I had to redo all the initial settings and reset up my wireless but I'm no longer stuck to my cable!

SOURCE: Is there any updates for

If you are referring to the RP614v1 not v2 then the latest firmware update is 4.15 and is located here: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/rp614v1_4_15rc4.bin .
Instructions to upgrade:

  1. Using the Web browser, and access the router by typing its IP address in the browser's URL address box (this is usually 192.168.0.1).
  2. Login to the router (User Name = admin and Password = password, unless you have changed it). Can't Log in?
  3. Click Maintenance > Router Upgrade.
  4. Click Browse and locate the new firmware which you just downloaded.
  5. Click Upload.
  6. Wait for the router to reboot.
  7. Turn the router power off.
  8. Turn the router power on, and wait for the router to reboot.

Reset the router to factory default. Usually done by unplugging the router hold in the reset button and plug in the router wait 30 sec. release reset button Wait 30 more sec. and unplug router again. Then reset your computer to obtain ip address automatically in network properties. Next shut down your computer, router and modem. First re-power the modem, give it time to boot (about 2 to 3 Min. for Cable and dsl or 7 to 10 min for satellite), next re-power the router, again give it time to acquire it's info (about 2 min.) then start your computer and try to access the Internet, all should be well...

Good luck, and have a great day...
Tim

Netgear wndr3300 blinking orange light

It depends. Have you checked the Netgear support site for FAQ and the manual. In some routers, orange lights indicate wired 100Mbps connections while green indicates 1000Mbps. In other cases, blinking lights indicated that the router is 'bricked'.

Twice after using Google's gmail video chat with our RP614, our internet access stopped. I had to recycle the power on the RP614 each time. Is this a known issue?

I can't think of a connection between the two events, esp if it happened only twice. I own a similar Netgear router (wi-fi tho and not DSL), and find it very reliable.

The light of internet is orange, not yellow.

The router should have reset button on the back. This will reset it to factory defaults. If you have an ISP that gives you internet without a username and password like rogers then you should be good to go. If your ISP is like Bell then you will need to get into the website of the router and configure it.

Rp614 netgear router

TRy first to power down the mode and router for about a minute then after a minute power back the modem first and wait again for a minute and then power the router back , if all the lights are ON already try to access the internet if still not working you may need to contact Netgear about your router.....

NEtgear RP614 cannot connect after a electricity shortage in our home :(

How is it not working? You get limited or no connectivity or it isn't functioning at all. Firstly, let's do a power cycle. Push the reset button for 5 seconds, unplug for 45 seconds, and reset 5 seconds, and unplug for 45 seconds. If that doesn't work try a hard reset. Alright, it's time to do a hard reset, this will rest all your passwords, Take a Pen or a pin, push the pin the the reset hole for 45 seconds, Uplug the modem for 1 minute, reset hole for 30 seconds, unplug for 30 seconds, and it should be hard resetted also power cycle.
