Question about JVC XV-501 DVD Player

Open Question

Dvd region code error

I recently bought the new Indiana Jones dvd. I live near kolkata , India. I bought the dvd from a reputed music store. It was written on the back of the dvd that it was meant to be sold only in india and sri lanka. Now whenever i try to play it in my philips dvd player it says "wrong region" and stops and it does not respond at all until i switch off the player. Please advice.

First of all, stop buying this trash. When people stop rewarding companies for creating restricted garbage DRM will die. Our XV-S300 was stolen recently, but this works for the XV-S500, and maybe the 300 as well:

TO MAKE THIS DRIVE REGION FREE:

1. Remove the disc
2. Close the door
3. Press 0 then ENTER on the remote control (RM-SXV008J)
(The player will display the PREVIOUS region setting
then will set itself to what you told it.)
------------------------------------------------------------------
(With the player OFF press 0 then ENTER on the remote)
------------------------------------------------------------------
From the website:

With the player off, just enter the region number you want and hit
"enter".
After a few seconds, you're ready to go.

SOURCE: Making my DVD Player Region Free

It is not a permanent hack, you will have to to it over for every out of region movie you put in.

1. When "REGION CODE ERROR" shows on screen after you've input your wrong-region DVD you push "ON SCREEN".

2. When the DVD-menu is showing push "ON SCREEN" again and another DVD-menu will appear.

3. Move the arrow over to the clock and press enter. The menu asks for "TIME" and you write 0:00:00 and push enter.

4. You will now see the menu for the movie. Remove the DVD-menu by pushing "ON SCREEN" once. You can now watch the movie.

It's possible that this DVD is not from the same region as the DVD player.
For instance, a DVD from India (region 5) will not play in a DVD player from the US (region 1).
You may want to check into that and post a reply here.

Getting Region 1

All the recent DVD drives have the region set in the hardware. This can be changed, however it can only be changed a small number of times, ( usually 5 ), after which it locks.
Because you do not live in region 1, I recommend that you get a second drive and set it to region 1. When you buy a DVD drive the default region code is the same as the region in which the store is..

Not sure on the details, but I think the software that came with the drive can change the region. Read help.

Region codes are a curse and one of several reasons why people illegally copy movies.
