Question about Coleman Powermate Premium Plus 6250W Portable Generator

Propane-converted generator sometimes sputters out and dies

Hello, my neighbor has a propane converted Coleman generator to charge his off-grid solar batteries during cloudy weather. It always starts ok, and runs great for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then suddenly the motor stumbles and drops in RPM. Sometimes the motor then dies, other times it catches back on and continues to run good. Whenever it dies, it always restarts with no problem, even immediately after it dies, so perhaps it is not a fuel-delivery problem. The time of running to when this problem happens is never exactly the same, sometimes happening a minute after it starts running, or it might run great for 20 minutes before it dies, or it might stumble and then catch on again, continuing to run for 5 more minutes. He doesn't have an owner's manual, so I don't know where/how to check the ignition components. I've wiggled all the external wiring while it's running, but that doesn't make it die. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

I believe the problem may be with the propane. Have him call his propane provider and get them involved. good luck

I am getting an older 8HP Coleman generator 4000 watts output. . My proposed solution is to install isolated outlets directly from the generator output to certain areas in the home.


You need to consult a local electrician, if you do this wrong you can cause allot of damage. We can only guess as to the correct way to do this without being there and looking at the wiring setup.

Is this true or scam Government pays you to go solar.


The US government WILL NOT PAY you to go solar. There have been incentives on the state level to get people to install solar panels. Most of these have dried up but it is possible to find programs that will reimburse you a portion of the total cost but don't expect much. We live in Florida and in 2009 we were promised nearly 1/2 back if we installed. We got less than 10% when all was said and done and it took 2 years to get that.

I have solar panels that put out a little more voltage then they are rated at,and they keep faulting out my grid tie inverter.I need a resister to knock down the voltage about 8 volts, got any ideas?


I like to ask, is the voltage from the solar panel messure with some load connected or is open circuit, normally solar panels produce high voltage than the working system, the reasson for that is to have Amperes in of to charge the batery, these is related to the size and power generated by the panel.
No need a resistor or in any case use a voltage regulator to prevent over charge.

How do i convert my 1.2kw solar inverter on my roof so i can run my home on stored energy ?


Solar panels produce DC voltage.
some solar panels have the inverter integrated into each solar panel.
I would suggest contacting a local solar panel supplier and asking them if they could add a Battery Charging System to the Solar panels you use. An then what sort of inverter to add to the bank of batteries.
An inverter converts DC voltage to AC voltage to use in the grid.
The AC voltages and DC voltages involved have the possiblity to kill if you much around with electricity.

Generator w/nat gas conversion kit sputters


THAT SOUNDS like a VERY LEAN condition. The exhause glowing is because its so lean. The stalling the sputtering. OPEN the gas valve more WHILE its running. With a load if possible.. If you have a tri fuel kit like I do, going from propane to nat gas I need to open the load block (gas valve) 2 turns more .Then it starts and runs great.

if petrol check the choke mechanisim.
if diesel injector may need cleaning or re setting

Powermate Maxa 5000 er will not run stably


Check the fuel filter. My company designed hybrid generators that are far more efficient. They use batteries to power your equipment, and the generator runs intermittantly to recharge the batteries when needed.
