SOURCE: I have a Janome 300e.

the cloth setter shows you exactly where the pattern is going to appear on your garment. the hoop attaches to your cloth setter just as if it was the machine ( so you need the one that goes with your machine), you postion the material and it shows where the design with be,and then you finish hooping. when you take off the hoop its ready to go onto the machine and you'll know the design is the correct palce. there is a tutorial on the clothsetter on youtube.
As for the disc, do a search online, but i think its only for the 9000 and 5700

Embroider Long names using Memory Card 101

I think you have to rehoop the fabric. Especially if the letters are large. Hope you have a clothsetter - it makes it so much easier. Hope this helps.

How do I use the mc11000 clothsetter?

if its like the 9000, you just put the bottom of the hoop as if you were putting it on the machine, then use the cross to align your fabric, put on the top part of the hoop, tighten screw ,then it should be ready to take off and put onto your machine without undoing the material from the hoop . there's a video on you-tube about using a clothsetter
