Replace condenser/capacitor on Husqvarna 6370 sewing machine

The last time I used my Husqvarna 6370 sewig machine, it went poof! and smoke came out accompanied by a burning smell. A sewing machine technician said it was most likely the condenser (also known as the capacitor, I believe). He said it was possible to open up the machine and replace the part myself. I bought a new condenser from him, but now I need the instructions on how to open up the machine and replace the part. Help!

you could try sewingpartsonline.com but you may find it advantageous to also buy a service manual for your machine before deciding if you can undertake this repair yourself.

You may want to just shop around a bit for another sewing machine tech who is willing to undertake the repair. I've found those that work from home or just pick up machines from a store rather than actually being based at a store are often more willing to fix an older machine rather than Sell you into a new machine.

Replacing a capacitor on Husqvarna 6440 sewing machine, can not find a exact replacement for PZB4003/13

Hi Travis,

This capacitor is not necessary. It was used back in the day to reduce noise in radios and TVs that were in the sewing room.

We cut them out and toss them all the time.

Good luck!

Model 6370. Why does it sew only in reverse when I select a pattern stitch?

Hi Sally,
I have worked on a few of the older Vikings and the pattern selector seems to get gummed up (something about the lubricant they used to keep the parts from rusting). Be careful with the plastic parts, they become very brittle with age and there is no easy way to get the machine apart because Viking hides the screws. There is a YouTube video of a tech working on the reversing problem, may not be the same model as yours but they are similar.

Model 6370. When I choose a pattern stitch, why does it only sew straight in reverse?

Hi Sally,

Looks like the slide block is bound up. Sometimes this is an easy fix for a technician, sometimes there are more problems.

Try a Viking dealer store. One can also be purchased online from some of the sewing machine vendors.

It's easier to download one. Here is one website, but I'm sure they have them on ebay.

Smoke started to billow out of my husqvarna 6370 today as I was sewing. Is this likely to be a repairable problem; I'd hate to part from this machine.

Unplug the machine. move the hand wheel to make sure it's still free and that you can form a stitch ok.

Smoke can come from a belt or from a dry connection... or from wires. If the machine feels ok... bet on electrical. Open access panels on the bottom or side so you can see the motor and electrical stuff. Look, sniff.. etc to suss out where the smoke came from.

I would not plug it in again you figure out the problem

Smoke and a burning smell came out of my Husqvarna Viking 180 sewing machine. I have been informed that the condenser needs replacing. However, it is proving difficult and expensive to get a technician...
