Question about Toshiba MD20FM1 20 in. TV/DVD Combo
DVD player won't play some of my discs, and has trouble with most of them. I keep getting an error message "incorrect disc". Some of the discs have been able to read after repeatedly inserting and ejecting the disc. Wondering if a cleaning disc would help if available. thx.

jusguessin should call Toshiba quickly. The units have a 1 year
warranty. Do not open the unit or it will void your warranty (I know, I
do Toshiba warranty repairs on their recorders. If anything will make
be void a warranty, it's a consumer who opens the unit and pokes around
mooch, clean the laser head. I wish I could refer you to a FAQ because this is about the 10th time today I have written this.
Open the unit. Remove the DVD drive. Take the top off of the DVD drive. Clean the lense with a q-tip with a little windex on it. Work the head up and down gently. Reassemble and test. If problem presists, go buy a new one.

This is a common problem for all combo units. The high voltage of the TV section attracts large amounts of particulate dust from the air and often it collects inside the DVD unit. The best way to deal with this is to clean the lens of the DVD unit u sing a cotton swab and alcohol. The store bought "cleaners" MAY work, but that is rare. These cleaners are nothing but small brushes embedded into a disc. They attempt to brush off hte dust. This rarely works. Open up the unit (if you feel comfortabel in doing so) to access the DVD section. Remove the top cover and carefully clean the lens. That should resolve the problem.
