Everytime I try to download the ITunes software, i get about 15% through and it kicks me out of IE. I have tried restarting - I have Windows Vista. I am getting frustrated, I just want to put some music on my new Ipod!
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Ipods are usually put into recovery mode when you attempt to restore it. Download the latest software for your ipod and hit update, or restore, whichever appears. The process should be simple. Goodluck and I hope this helped. :)

Since that you've tried resetting/restore method but no good still you can try to update the software of your ipod. Most likely the problem you've experiencing might have been caused by a corrupted software on your ipod.
First off, you'll need the latest version of iTunes.
If you don't have it already, go into iTunes, click Help and select Check for Updates.
After you are all nice and updated....
Connect the iPod to your computer and open iTunes (if not already open).
iTunes will see if a newer version of the iPod software is available, and prompt you to download and install it.
Follow any instructions that might come up.
The iPod display will display an Apple logo and a progress bar.
When this is completed, eject the iPod and check if it is now working.
