Can't Add files to mp3 after reinstalling-device not found.
Hi, I've got a creative zen mp3 player. I've recently had all software reinstalled on my laptop except that I couldn't find the installation CD for my mp3, so that wasn't reinstalled. Instead, I got on to the creative site and downloaded the creative media source 5 software and thought all was ok. However, I've been trying to add tracks to the mp3 from the laptop's hard-drive and I can't. It looks like the computer and/or creative media source 5 hasn't picked up the device properly. That is, my computer recognises a device and I can view files etc. But when I'm in the creative program I can't transfer files to the mp3 because the drop down list of the computer's drives and devices doesn't include the creative zen as a destination. Is there some way I can get the software/computer to recognise my device so that I can begin transferring again? Thanks!
Same thing: I can see the files on the player(ZEN Photo Sleek) and can drag file TO the device, but not FROM the device. I have a new PC and wanted to backup my device files. I have tried several filemanagers: Realplayer, WMP, ITunes. The Creative software does not even show the files... It used to be working fine with aforementioned managers, now I am almost desperate. I don't have my old pc anymore, if the ZEN breaks down at some point(it's pretty old) I loose the files and can start over again ripping my CD's...Same thing: I can see the files on the player(ZEN Photo Sleek) and can drag file TO the device, but not FROM the device. Re: Can't Add files to mp3 after reinstalling-device not...
I have an older ZEN, so I'm not sure if I have Creative Media Source 5, but mine never worked really well either. My Windows Media Player recognizes mine, so I just sync to that library. I even have gotten a new laptop since I got my ZEN and I never downloaded anything, I just connected it to Window's Media. I hope that's helpful!

I found the solution. When I connected my device to computer, it was unknown. I tried to reinstalled the software; however, the problem was still going on. To solve it;
1. Connect your device to your computer,
2. My computer, system properties, device manager
3. Find Creative zen which has attention icon
4. Click the Zen and then delete it
5. Plug out your device, and plug it again. That's all.
I had the same problem. Reinstalling Windows Media Player didn't help; nor did reinstalling the Creative drivers.
But this worked... in Device Manager I uninstalled everything under Universal Serial Bus controllers, rebooted and let Windows reinstall the USB drivers. Had to reinstall my mouse software too, but the Zen is now back to normal.
Hope this helps someone.

Before preceding, goto control panel, add/remove programs (vista equivalent) select windows media player and uninstall note the response it gives you. If it is going to allow you to uninstall OR downgrade windows media player to version 9 then keep going. If not, then find another computer that you've never used the player on try upgrading firmware there, make SURE it's got windows media player 9 by downgrading it in add/remove programs.
Now for the fun stuff:
Sounds like the same problem I've resolved several times in the past on here.
1. Plug in the device. 2. Goto device manager in control panel and remove the device drivers. 3. Reboot if it asks you to, make sure to unplug the device. 4. Goto device manager again, remove the USB hubs. 5. Don't reboot. 6. Goto control panel, add remove software or equivalent for windows vista ultimate. 7. Select creative labs, and uninstall any and every zen related software. 8. Don't reboot. 9. Goto my computer, find the creative directory located on your main hard drive at \program files\creative. Deleted it completely. 10. Select windows media player select uninstall, or downgrade accordingly. 11. Make sure your zen touch is not plugged in and reboot your system. 12. After system loads, plug in the device and run the firmware software again.
And if you wish, reinstall windows media player 10 and the creative software (which you don't need at all with vista) all the other drivers should reinstall themselves.
BTW it's a hell of alot easier to just use another CPU if you have access to one, I've done it both ways and it saves alot of time.
I'm having the exact same problem. My zen is 'charging' but isn't detected anywhere on my pc and I'd leave it charging for days but nothing happens. I've tried different usb ports, reinstalling the software several times but nothing. I recently reinstalled Windows and with my new pc my Zen cannot work on it for some reason?! I put previous files from my old pc onto my Zen hoping that I could transfer them onto my new Windows pc but I fear I've lost the data on my Zen completely. Arggh, any suggestions guys? Please..x
1. remove all creative software from your pc (do this from start menu/settings/control panel/add or remove programs)
2. Uninstall Windows Media Player 11 and Windows Media Player 11 runtime. This will rollback the pc to an earlier version of WMP.
3. Download the latest version of the zen driver from this location: http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ame=Windows+XP
4. Make sure the zen is not connected to the pc and install run the exe file to install the software on your pc. at some point, the install will tell you that the unit is not connected. Connect the unit to proceed. it will also notify you that you are replacing an existing software, or something to that effect. I accepted or said OK to this popup. Once the firmware is installed, my started to work fine. You can now reinstall WMP from microsoft website. Hope this works for you. you might want to verify that your new player has the latest firmware available, as this might address the unresponsive-button issue you're having. Firmware updates are surprisingly easy - you just download the firmware file from Creative's website, plug in your player, and double-click the downloaded file. It's that easy.
Try to add your music a bit at a time instead of your whole library at once. That will freeze it. You can also try sync with Window's Media Player, which works a lot better than the Creative software.
