SOURCE: Epson S20 does not recognise cartridges

It should be returned to the seller for exchange under warranty.

I presume you have removed the tags on the cartridge and ensured they have chips on the cartridge case? If all that has been done then i would be making a warranty claim

SOURCE: "Ink cartridges cannot be recognized" when using genuine Epson

i had this happen to me twice with two different people, it is highly possible that your black inks are defective, its also highly possible that one of the other inks are causing this error. take them all out, and put one and see what happens, do this one at a time until you see something screwey.

also possible, the contacts on the printhead are dirty or are pushed in.

also possible, bad printhead.

I bought a new epson black catridge but printer shows it being empty even though it feels full

Unfortunately this sort of error can occur whether the cartridge is a genuine Epson one or a perfectly good compatible. Remove the cartridge and carefully, with clean piece of cotton-type cloth, wipe the contacts and try again as that will often clear the error.

If the cartridge is not the same code as the previous used by the printer, then it will not be compatible. Your printer has been replaced by Epson Stylus NX415 All-in-One
  • One 69 Black Ink cartridge (T069120)
  • One 69 Cyan Ink cartridge (T069220)
  • One 69 Magenta Ink cartridge (T069320)
  • One 69 Yellow Ink cartridge (T069420)

  • Therefore, ensure that the catridge follows the above code (69).
    Best regards.

What is the problem if ink out error is appearing always?

If you refilled and replaced the cartridge yourself and the printer doesn't accept that the cartridge is now full, here are the instructions how to reset the ink counter:

Black catridge not functioning . The printer shows its absence d

You do not mention what brand of printer you have or cartridges.

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges? Brother Genuine Cartirdges????
ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
    That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

    Thanks and Good Luck :0)

Epson printer says "cannot recognize ink cartridges".

Are you using genuine epson cartridges? Many generics simply dont work on the newer printers. Once the printer decides the cartridge is empty, it sends a signal to the chip and that's it. You might hear ink, but if the chip says empty you can't use it. It also has the annoying habit of doing this when there's still 10-15% of the ink left.
I use reusable cartridges from They hold 2/3 more ink and the chips automatically reset to full if you remove and re-insert the cartridge. Instead of replacing the entire cartridge when it's empty, you pop out an internal ink tank and replace just that. So you know the chip has already been recognized by your printer. The ink tanks cost under $3. I think these are a brilliant invention.

    1. First make sure you have installed the catridge correctly by taking out and placing it again.

    2. Then,
The following Epson ink cartridges should be used in your device:

    Black: T0431 (high capacity cartridge)
    or T0441 (standard capacity cartridge)

And make sure you use the genuine original EPSON catridge.

    3. If you are using a genuine one, then TRY TURNING OFF YOUR PRINTER AND SWITCH IT ON AGAIN.

If you do not suceed then,

Please contact Epson to resolve this problem with a technical support representative.

Hello! I onw a Canon MultiPass MP700 printer (copy, scan and print) and I recently changed one of the 4 catridges and replaced it by a compatible one (BCI-3eM bought at Staples) as usual. I have never been...

Erm... the cartridge is wrong. There is not much more one can do to communicate the fact the cartridge is the problem.

Throw out the compatible one you bought - or if you want a refund, return it the store as faulty - and get a replacement. I suggest a genuine one since you had the problem with a faulty compatible (up to 30% of compatibles can be faulty)

I bet you a Fixya rating that once you replace the cartridge for a correct genuine item, your message will go away and your printer will once again be happy.

This seems to be a "feature" of this printer with compatible cartridges although I'm sure it wouldn't be possible to get Epson to admit it. I have seen the same thing on other R265s and I haven't found a solution a yet. As far as I know, it doesn't affect printing - as long as there's actually ink in the cartridges it will print, despite what the Epson Status Monitor says, but YMMV.
