THe best performance would be achieved by upgrading this PC to the maximum allowed. If you are not sure the max, go to www.crucial.com and enter in your model. The video card is not as important. If the hard drive is slow or the performance is still slow after a memory upgrade, you might want to reformat and reinstall Windows.

Want to upgrade memory. will I lose my existing memory

I assume you are upgrading the RAM (Random Access Memory), the Ram is also called a memory stick because it looks like a stick, the stored data is kept on the Hard Drive, if that is upgraded then yes you will loose the memory, but not if you upgrade the Ram

Hi,

According to the specs of your motherboard it supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards.

See HP Pavilion a1320n Support

You can get a start by going to Tiger Direct and looking at their video card selections.

Here's a link: Tiger Direct PCI Express Cards

You can get several different memory amounts on the cards. I would probably stay with a minimum of 512MB.

You need to watch the connections. If you use a VGA connector to your monitor, make sure the video card has one. Some only have HDMI or dual HDMI.

Of course you can always find them at most Big Box stores such as Staples, etc.

Ask questions. Make sure what you buy is compatible. Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

NOTE: Keep in mind that smooth video is interdependent on RAM, CPU speed AND video card.

Upgrades and advice!!!!!

2GB is the maximum amount of ram you can install in your Dimension 2400. Depending on how much ram you have in it now,.. you could get a substantial speed difference by upgrading. You can upgrade the video card if you want. If you want to upgrade to 2 GB and upgrade to a decent vid card,.. you are looking at about $180 for parts. you will need to determine if that is something you want to put into the 2400 or buy a new computer with substantial speed and performance difference for about $500 from Dell. If you have any further questions, please post a comment here and I will answer them for you.

I just upgraded from 2 mps up too 8, and I bought more memory from HP, will this speed up my pc?

Depending on what is the choke point on your performance, the answer is most likely, yes it will be faster.
If you were being limited by your Internet connection, then the 2 to 8 upgrade will help.
If you had minimal RAM in the system, then upgrading there will help.
If you have a low end video card, that my be a limiting factor, same with a slower processor (Celeron Vs Pentium 4 for example)
Other limiting factors can be the amount of hard drive free space and HDD speed and virtual memory settings & performance settings of the operating system

"Call of Duty" runs in slow motion on my PC.

Hi thomas,

Upgrading video cards will definitely increase in performance. You asked whether you should upgrade your entire PC or just the card and that really depends on the hardware you are running. If all of your hardware just barely meets the requirements than upgrading the videocard WILL give you a noticeable improvement but obviously it will not be as good as getting a better CPU and more RAM as well as a new card.

A good measure of a cards performance is based on the series of cards it is from. Your Geforce is from the 6000 series of Nvidia cards, they have 7000, 8000, and even 9000 series cards atm.

I would recommend something like an XFX Geforce 9800 GTX+ series card with 512MB of onboard memory, or any other competing card in the 200$ price range. This will definitely give you an increase in performance, and is a very popular card.

Hope this helps and please take a second to rate!

A810n video card upgrade

make sure that your system is on hardware compatibilty list ( enough Ram, acceptible OS, etc.) I would suspect the video card as a problem farther down the list. It will likely function to some extent with any card but possibly require and upgraded card for adequate performance

Low profile video card for HP Slimline Desktop

Upgrading a certain parts in the computer depends on what purpose you want it to perform. If you're a GAMER or using imaging sofwares, then use MidRange Video Cards, like 7600GT. If the space on your Casing is very tight, then using low voltage Video cards like 7300LE.
