If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer. But this is likely an inverter model, so it wouldn't have one and would be some other component in the inverter I'd say.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

Did you recently have trouble with the cooktop lights?

Sometimes when the cooktop lights blow or are inserted or removed while the oven is still plugged in, the filaments can short, causing a surge that damages the controller.

They can be repaired. More details here.

Where is the thermal switch located

If your model is NN-P295, then the service manual is here.

You can order Panasonic parts from
Encompass here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Most microwaves have a thermal cutout or thermostat on the magnetron, on the top of the cooking cavity, and often on the floor of the oven or above the bottom cover.

Panasonic NN-P295 Cooktop Light not working

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

Pansonic model nn-p295 over the range microwave oven

In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer. You can find one here:
http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vServiceLocator?storeId=15001

It is possible that the magnatron is bad but hard to say on a no heat problem without checking all components. A lot of model give 5-7 yr warranty on that part.

Fuse

Agrivated, looks like the fuse 18amp is in the back on top. You will have to remove the shell off the microwave to get at it. This one operates with a inverter..you have some high voltage there. Make sure it's unplugged. While you have it apart, check the primary switch, top one on door latch. If the monitor switch finds this closed when the door is opened it will blow that fuse. You also have a cavity thermal cut out that will shut the oven down. Catriver...post back.
